talking to a mechanic of 25 yrs being im amiture* he thinks i should drive it till the trany goes then replace it i wondered hey if i gotta replace it i have an excuse to go with something better and i wont get sighs and flack from my girlfriend and family so i thought i read in some mod lists that the galant vr4 trany should bolt right up i can get one cheep so what yall think let me know any other suggestions with be dually noted thanks :laser:

OK, let m eget this straight. Your tranny is grinding into second. So you checked the fluid, and found it to be dry. So your mechanic is telling you to leave it that way until it dies??? UHH, NOOO!! Leaving the tranny dry is a very bad idea. Dry tranny can lead to gears lockign up (along with your tires). At any amount of speed, this can send your car into a violent spin. Fill it with some some AMSOIL 75/95 gear oil. Trust me on this:thumb:

no my trany is full my transfer case was empty i ordered some synthetic 8090 and drained and filled everything what a mess any way i still am getting that grinding sound by the way its awd sorry for the confusion i meant the front tranfer case was bone dry so hit me back

OK, I see now. Yeah, seems good. Just make sure you always have fluid in it. If it grinds, oh well. Your only alternative is to pull and rebuild it. Keep going until you cant shift the damn thing anymore. Then do a full rebuild.

Thats what I am doing. My second gear synchro is shot. Still goes in, just grinds. Ordering a bigger turbo (20g) now, will worry about the tranny later.

thanx for the advice i was thinkin the same thing the synchro but i was thinkin a new trani when its time so you think i can get away with a rbuild till then or just wait and replace it

If you put that bigger turbo on and then grenade the trans shortly after, don't come crying to us.

Fix the trans THEN upgrade!! Is that such a tough concept?

If you were running with no oil in the transfer case then you should be thinking about replacing that also.. at least find out why there was no oil.
