Does Muffler type matter if you are running an open cutout?

Ask Me, Virginia
I am running a cutout post cat between the cat and the muffler. The cutout is open all the time. The exhaust diameter is 2.5 inches and so is the cutout.

Whoever welded the muffler didn't know what they were doing because the weld broke on the highway.

This is the question:

If I put a cheap crap muffler in place of the aftermarket muffler that was initially there, will I lose performance at all or does the fact that the cutout is open at all times make it not matter?

Please just try to answer the question. For some reason questions like this are hard to answer for some people and then things go off topic.

Thanks for your time.

Fast and easy answer is no you will not loose performance!

You might when its closed as mufflers can restrict flow but most of the straight through units are just for sound and do not do anything for performance

Very cool, now fast question. :D

Doesn't some exhaust still flow through that muffler even when the cutout is open?

My question may be dumb. Still want to ask!

Thanks

The only things that effect exhaust performance are diameter of the pipe, shape of the pipe, angle of the bends, and the design of the muffler (though this is a highly contested variable). As long as you are not adding a bend, or changing the oipe in anyway, before the cut out then anything you do after the cutout will have no effect on your exhaust flow. Does holding up a muffler a few feet after the exhaust tip change the sound of the exhaust? That's essentially what you are doing.
