Do I have to retard the timing if I installed a boost controller and turned up the boost. I know that it is recommended that you retard the timing, but is it really necessary?

HUh? What are you talking about? Retarding timing has to do with the ECU Pulling your timing when have knock, detonation, and a series of other stuff. I never heard of such a thing. I do know that on 1gs you can change your base timing...but on 2gs timing is done all by itself. When you install a MBC just make sure you have a boost gauge and dont turn it to high. Maybe you need to go back and hit the person on the head that told you that.

You dont need to retard timing for boost, that is more for cars that didnt come turbo stock.
