take out bumper support for front mount?

Trim the support and put it back in there. If you get hit in the front, there will be A LOT more damage if it isn't installed. I've also heard that insurance will not give you money if you don't have it properly installed and get in a wreck.

What bumper support?

All I have is a few brackets I fabricated. ;)

My fried cut his too. It'll take a while depending on what you decide to use to cut the actual support bumper because it's pretty strong. Otherwise it's probably wort the effort to do it anyway.

No bumper supports, brackets, foam, bolts, on front or rear here.

how good does the front and rear covers go back on without the support? i know on the front theres some plastic clips that attach the bumper cover to the support..what did you do about that?

On the 2G everything bolts to the factory sheet metal and the bumpers will hold their form.

i just cut off the brackets on my front bumper support and reinstalled it that way. saved about 30 lbs.

I honestly dont know how much if at all it would afect the intercooler but the amount of trimming I would have to do to get this support bar back on would make it useless.

I have no bumper period.. Can't fit my intercooler with it. I'm working on looking for a local Galant that I can cut so I just have the parts that bolt up to the chassis.

When I put my big greddy front mount on my 99gst, I initially left out the 5mph bumper. After posting the same question on another board, I got a lot of the same answers, but the one that worried me the most was the fact that the insurance company would probably deny a claim if the bumper support is left out.

So I devoted a Saturday to putting it back on. I have the top part of the bumper cut out too for more flow to the fmic, and the majority of the 5mph bumper goes behind that spot. So I had to hack the crap out of the thing!!! A friend who did it before let me borrow his reciprocating saw, and it was hard to cut even with that. Forget about a dremel, wouldn't even make a dent!!!

After a lot of hacking I got it to fit, but there are some spots that are very thin and would not hold up well at all. But at least I can say it's on there. And in my case, it does not block flow at all to the fmic or above the fmic upper pipe to the radiator.

Also if you cut it, the bumper is made out of this NASTY half plastic half metal shaving materials. That stuff gets on your hands and knees, and it's pure pain. Like putting your hands on a bed of nails. And it took 2 to 3 days of showering to get it all off!!!OMG

The bumper support is strong for a reason.. I tboned someone at 45mph and it didn't even break. everything behind the bumper support didn't get much damage. I still drove the car home. I've seen a picture of a 2g DSM that got hit in the front with no bumper support, and the front end got squished like a tin can till it hit the engine.. It was nasty and very deep. How's this bumper hack job? It's going to be in my car soon.. Probably lost a lot of strutural support but still feels preaty strong.

But my question is in looking at your picture dont you think that your bumper support will have hardly any effect at all because its cut down SOOO much. Also Im sure your insurance company wouldnt be to happy if they saw that you cut the hell out of it to.

Well I'm shure it's not as strong.. But if it's all crunched up they might not notice :) .. The guy I got the intercooler off hacked it all up.. But personally I would try to keep as much of it on as possible. Like in the big greedy kit.

With my IC there would be no way for the bumper support to stay.
