Coolant leak , water pump

Hey Guys,

Question, my 95 that i just swap a 4G63T is leaking coolant from one of the water pump holes "weep hole" i was searching in google and found:

Most water pumps have a "weep hole" (red arrow) where coolant will drain if the pump shaft seal leaks.

This is clear evidence that the pump was the source of the coolant leak (besides the fact that I could wiggle the water pump pulley by hand and it would move laterally about a quarter-inch).

Will i need to replace my pump or change the shaft seal ? attached you will find a link from a video i took:

Thanks!

I would change it out. Usually coolant coming out of the weep hole is a tell tale sign of a bad pump. Don't change the shaft, change the whole pump with a OEM replacement. Might as well do a full timing belt change while you are in there and check for and leaky oil seals and the balance shaft belt (if you have them).

^ Dead on. The pump is cheap enough, just replace the whole thing and call it a day. Also be sure to not over tighten your belts, as that can cause the water pump to go bad faster as it puts alot of tension on the pulley.

Last thing I forgot to mention make sure you put the water pump pulley back on correctly. If you install it backwards (yes it would still bolt up backwards) you would start to throw accessory belts.

I understand that. The OEM would cost a little more. Its up to the buyer really. Just stay away from the pumps that have plastic blades.
