would it be safe for me to run race gas when i go the track in a couple weeks. If so what octane should I get, and how much boost should i run while using it. Thanks

The only "problem" you can have from running race fuel is it could kill your 02 sensor over time.

How much octane? As much as your wallet can afford?

How much boost? Depending on what octane you put in, about as much as that 14b can make. :) (20psi and 116 octane VP C16 turbo blue should be fine...the stuff is magic in a can)

yes, im going to beaver springs on april 25th as are about 15 of my friends w/ their cars so its going to be a pretty large group any others are welcomed to join....anyawys....1)WHERE can you get race gas, 2)do you have to run your tank dry and then put race gas in or can you mix it with normal gas? 3) How long will i notice the effects of it after i leave the track(only planning 2 or 3 runs)? 4) oh im planning to only run 15psi so what octane should i get? 5) are there ANY consequences im risking by putting the gas in besides the o2 sensors? thanks in advance, hopefully you can answer any or all of my questions.

forget that guys question. Im still wondering if i can run race gas on my stock fuel system and what octane i should get.

Yes you can run race gas on stock fuel system and get some 116 octane. That's what they usually have anyways.

if you still have a cat do not run leaded race gas...if you dont have a cat you are fine..leaded will hurt your o2 eventually but it will take awhile, i used to run leaded all the time when i had my supra still.

what is your setup and how much boost are you planning on running?

i have 3 in downpipe cat eliminator, catback exhaust, ported o2, mbc, intake, uicp, how much boost should i run?

With C16 race fuel you should be able to run 20psi without problems. CHECK YOUR PLUGS (A forgotten tuning tool these days) after a run to see if you are running lean. If so, back off the boost a bit.

to blitzed...i didnt hijack anything, i just added additional questions instead of wasting another thread for the SAME TOPIC! i included your questions in my post so how bout you chill out man

c16 may even be a little too much...i ran 28psi on a mix of about 30% pump 93, and 70% 115 on a greddy t78 turbo with no detonation...i think at 20psi on your setup, depending on how the weather is outside, you should be able to use around 105-110 leaded and be fine, or do 50/50 mix of pump and c16...the motor octane is what you want to be aware of, not the research octane(i think thats what its called) which is what is labeled on the pumps..different quality's of gas will yield different motor octanes. many people use c16 because its high m/o, but it is $$...but so is a new engine

T78? Is this for real? You run a T78 on your car?

Well anyway, a small factory turbo will cause a lot of exhaust manifold backpressure with a negative deltap and that will cause reversion which leads to higher combustion temps and you guessed it...detonation. 20psi on a turbo designed for it and 20psi on a turbo designed for 11psi are two different things.

For the matter of about $5 just stick the damn C16 in the car. :)

ok now i have a question of is it really worth it? Will i notice that much of a difference. And how much does it cost. Thanks guys

Unless you like blowing chunks of piston out the exhaust or melting a valve, yes it's worth it.

CAN I run 20psi on pump with the 14b? Yep. Do I like to do it and is it safe? No way.

Consider it a $15.00 insurance policy.

Make sure your tank is near empty...empty as you can make it and dump at least 2 gallons of C16 in...three would be best so the fuel pump doesn't starve.

well what am i suppose to say to that? First you tell me i should do it, then you say it will blow chunks of my pistons out the exhaust. Now i dont know if i should do it. I wanted to try it just once when i go to the track in a couple weeks.

You are getting confused. Get some C16. Put it in the car after emptying the tank as much as possible. It is safer at 20 psi on your setup wiht c16 than pump gas. Throw that auto meter blinky blinky as$ guage in the trash can and do not even consider using it as a tuning tool.

What Jay is talking about with the melted pistons is that those may be the results you get when you try to run 20 psi on the stock fuel setup and pump gas. C16 provides a safety blanket. Allowing the car to run leaner without piston destroying detonation.

Dont worry about it killing your 02 sensor. I run c16 in my car all the time and after 2 years I havent had to replace the sensor. Yes, it will eventually fail but not anytime in the near future.

ok i understand now. Thanks guys. How much of a difference should i see on my times? or is just that race gas allows you to run high boost?

Race gas allows you to run about 2 to 4 psi extra boost, assuming your setup can push that much boost. Race gas at the same boost level won't help much, if at all.

1. at the track.
2.yes, to get full benefit
3. until you run out of gas
4. just enough that you don't see knock
5. cooked cat, addictive exhaust fumes and performance increase
