I have a '91 and got a jdm motor that looks to have a '90 style oil cooler. Instead of swapping parts, can i just plug those two lines(in green) with solid bolts and ditching the 2 "garbage oil lines"(red) ? would i be fine without harm to motor?

please help

Yes but u need some sort of oil cooler on your motor. Either pick up the 90 style air piece or swap in your filter housing and waterlines and cooler fromt he 91.

just out of curiosity, why would you plug thoes? the 90 and the 91 JDM both have the exact same cooling setup (oil to air). thoes lines should hook strait up to your stock oil cooler unit.

does yours have a water cooled unit? I put a 92 motor (oil to air) into my 93 body car (oil to coolant). I just grabbed and mounted an oil-air cooler to the place where the pre 93 coolers go. Works just fine. I can get some pictures of how i had it all situated if you need some, tho it is pretty self explanitory if you look at another pre '93

Only '90 had the air to oil coolers. 91+ had wather to oil coolers.

I would agree that you should ether re-use your old 91 water/oil cooler. Or just convert it to 90 style system. If you are going for 90 style cooler, make sure that you do it for a right reason. It will not greatly improve your oil cooling system. The difference between the two style of coolers is not all that great, but 90 style cooler does not have as many issues with loosening filter housing. So it might be a good idea for that reason.

Zac83, please send me some pictures installing the '90(oil-air) into a '91+(oil-water) its my 1st time doing this, never had experieneced so id greatly appreciate it. :)

As far as my old oil cooler i think its leaking oil or my oil filter housing is ..actually which one is the internal cooler on the '91? :)

The oil to water cooler that all the 91+ cars came with is integrated into the filter housing, that is why it is so much thicker than the 90 filter housing.

If I were you, I would just toss the oil cooler from a 90 onto your car. It mounts up in the front, in front of the radiator, on the lower driver's side of that opening.

Otherwise, you're going to have to toss a 91+ oil/water cooler on the car.

pics tomorow morning...

if you try to use your water cooler on your jdm motor: it has no provisions for water lines from the front water pipe... and thats not a fun item to swap from engine to engine...

OK i decided im getting a '90 external oil cooler w/ the lines ofcourse. Since it has a better cooling and reliable than '91+ cars.

How would i actually mount the little radiator looking--external cooler on my '91 radiator? wont i need '90 brackets?

help please

PS: Zac83 u promised to send me pix but never got it, just a reminder thanks man :)

Actually I had my motor changed over a year ago and they just pluged the holes and i'm not running any oil cooling method. Just found that out so I'm trying to find a 90 oil cooler to mount.
I have a 92 and put in a 90 cyclone motor. The place that did this does it to all of the cars they swap(4g63t) I wounder how many cars their going to screw up by doing that.

well i picked up a '90 cooler w/ lines and mounted it with thick zip-ties on the PS lines in front of the radiator. its very simple.

No oil cooler = No good for the motor.

tsi_turboawd why don't you take the opportunity to use the outlets to install a good oil cooler (Setrab, Mocal,...).It's funny how some get this filter housing and others, who already have it, want to get rid of it.

spymoto I hope you realize that not the fact that you did not have any oil cooling screwed your and the rest of the poor guys engines. To plug those ports it's just one of the stupidest idea I've ever heard off. When that is done the oil flow to the engine is dramatically reduced ( almost stopped when hot).
