hey!

what are the differences in the 6 and 7 bolt motors? i pretty sure it is something with the flywheel. is there anything else?

i have heard the 6 bolt is a better motor (in regards to performance potential). is that true?

now my other question, is it possible or woth it to do a conversion? i realize that it may mean a new transmission but im will ing to do that because i want to build my car up to about 600 hp. im sure the stock tranny will not hold up under that preasure right?

any help will be greatly appreciated!

1.) this is a newbie question imo.
2.) if you're asking this question, you will probably never reach
600 hp. not trying to shoot you down, but be realistic. there are only a handful of 600hp dsm's and none of the owners ever probably asked this question. i know everyone starts somewhere but damn. those who have 600 hp dsm's know cars PERIOD. and they've become dsm gods thru years and years of r&d.

the conversion end is not a newbie question. i may be relatively new but i know a lot! i have learned a lot! and i plan to learn more! but even these DSM gods started where im at. no flaming for being curious and trying to do something right.

and yes i WILL reach 600 hp! it may not be till im 25 or 30 BUT it WILL happen! i will be a DSM god!

and what about the converison?

-mike:dsm:

yeah i dont like to flame but the ape is right......but if you really wanna know, first we gotta know what your putting the 6 bolt in....if your putting it in your 91 eclipse non-turbo then the question is do you have a 1.8 or 2.0 if you have a 2.0 then its already a 6 bolt

i will be president one day too. ok, besides that....

6-bolt and 7-bolt refer to the number of bolts that hold the flywheel on the crank. the number of flywheel bolts themselves have nothing to do with the real comparison. you want a 6-bolt because the actual block, crank, and pistons, are stronger. it takes a lot to do the conversion. i won't even get into it b/c you can do a search on any dsm msg board and find conversion tips. but i will tell you what almost everyone else will ....."buy a 1g awd turbo model instead."

1st off i have a 2.0 L. 2nd off cost is not an obstacle. if a 6-bolt is better i will convert. if a 7-bolt can be made to reach the same hp without a conversion then i wont do the conversion. and lastly i dont want want to buy an awd. i will race any awd when my car i finished and beat it!

-mike:dsm:

you're talking as if you have a 7-bolt. if you're talking about your 91 n/t, you have a 6-bolt. and calling out awd's isn't the best way to get help. quite frankly i'm done even reading your posts. i'll respond when i see a 8 second fwd timeslip........Glazar watch out!!! LOL.

LOL, Dude clam down. Research alittle bit more. Know what your talking about when you start a thread. RRE has some great stuff you should read over regarding this. There are alot of threads on a 6 bolt motor, but what you plan on using it in is a different story. And Im sorry but AWD isnt something you should put down :D It'll own yer ass.

well i geuss i should have said this in the beggining. the guy i bought the car from put a new engine in it that is he said several years newer that the car itself. therefor it is either a 420A (which i dont think. ive seen pics of the 420 and its not my engine.) so the only option left is the fact it is a 7 bolt 4G63. thanks for the people who have helped. anymore is helpis apprecoated.

-mike:dsm:

PS- the AWD may own my ass STOCK. but when im finished i will own any AWD except the ones with more HP! thats a promise!

a 420a would'nt go in without extensive work, you probably have a 7-bolt like you said.

and with the awd/fwd thing. of couse you're gonna be faster(if you learn how to drive) its proven fact that FWD cars are faster, the awd's get slowed down quite a bit from extra weight and horsepower loss through the extensive drivetrain. don't expect to be "quicker" than an awd car, because we all know, for short distance (i.e. stoplight racing, etc) all wheel drive owns.

i will admit defeat there. AWD owns FWD in off the line! anymore help? personal experiences?
