(Thread goes here or Problem Dianosis, Feel free to move, Sorry)

I recently removed both honeycombs from my MAS to increase airflow. My questions are, I am having slight stall and idle problems since I removed both honeycombs, would switching to a Dejon Tools 2G MAS to 1G pipe remedy the problem? Also, is there a high chance that I would now be running lean at WOT due to increased and non-registered airflow? I don't want to destory any costly parts, thanks for the help. Jake

You will run way lean unless you have the fuel for it. An intake pipe will only hurt you, if you dont have the fuel to keep up with the extra airflow. The main purpose of the honeycombs, if i remember correctly, is to create a vortex, spinning the air before it enters the turbo. Removing them reduces that restriction, allowing more air to flow, more air means more fuel, and if you dont got it you'll be melting stuff. I would recommend not modding it yourself, but get an Al Blaha or a 2g mas.

Just my 2 cents

So a 2G MAS on a 2 1/2" intake pipe would cure the problem correct?

Along with a set of 550's. I had that setup on my car for awhile and worked and idled great, without an afc. If you dont want to spend the money on injectors right away, block off part of the mas, with a piece of plastic or somthin like it. This will work both on the 2g mas, and on your hacked 1g. Have you ever datalogged your car? Do you KNOW the car is running lean? What are the o2s?

Acutally I haven't datalogged my car but, it seems to idle pretty ackward. So I guess I could be lean. I'm going to order a Dejon Tools intake today and block off part of the MAS just to be safe until I can figure out what to do. Any help would be awesome, Jake.

With the extra air, you will run lean! Hacking or switching the mas requires supporting fuel mods.
Here are your options:
1.)Al Blaha MAS mod: Al Blaha MAS (Send you current 1G MAS to be hacked "Correctly")
*The Al Blaha Mas hacks the electornics in the 1G MAS to trick your ECU to still work correctly while getting better airflow, and has a gate type thingie that closes over the lower honey comb at idle so you can still idle correctly. (A lot of old school people used this one)
*Requried mods
-Al Blaha MAS ($150.00)

2.)2G MAS mod: 2G MAS Mod (Use a mas from a 2G on a 1G.)
*The 2G will MAS will flow even more than a hacked 1G. However, you car WILL run lean and you will have to get the supporting mods.
*Required mods:
-2G MAS ($100.00) Classifieds/DSMTrader
-2G Wiring Harness ($15.00) MS Recyclings
-Intake pipe ($135) Dejon Tool
-Fuel Pump ($150.00)
-Injectors ($290.00)
-AFC ($300.00)

3.)LS1 MAF mod: LS1 MAF (Use MAS from a GM car on DSM)
*This is a new one that many people are trying. Looks like a cheaper alternative to the 2G MAS setup, plus a little more flow.
*Someone who just got it - http://www.machvforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16033&highlight=LS1+Maf
*Required mods
-MAF Translater kit ($200.00) comes with wiring harness/afc
-Fuel Pump ($150.00)
-Injectors ($290.00)

Thanx,

Ok, thanks for the input on the MAS. I just called up Dejon Tools and talked with a rep for about 15 minutes about my problem. I ordered a new intake pipe and he said in about a week, they will have Corvette/GM MAS available for 1G DSM's. There will be no hard wiring, just plug it in and go. He also said that the Vette MAS has a type of adjustable AF-C along with it. I plan on purchasing this as soon as it hits the market if it is as good as he made it out to be. Do you think I will be ok if I just mask off part of the lower honeycomb on my current MAS to restrict the airflow until I get my new MAS in a few weeks? How can I fix this problem today? Thanks for the help, Jake.

Ok, I have an idea to temporarily fix my MAS until I can order my Vette MAS and Apex'i AFC, I was just going to take a piece of hard plastic or cardboard and tape it to the hole created by removing the lower honeycomb and then poking a few holes into it to create some airflow through but not having a gapeing hole like before. Ideas on the effectiveness, place for problems, etc? Thanks, Jake.

You cant just put a honeycomb back in, when u take it out you pretty much destroy it.

That should work fine until you get your new setup, would be good to check with a datalogger, but it should be ok.

I have the new 1G MAF ordered and going to be here Thursday so this is a temporary fix. I also have a new intake pipe from Dejon Tools and K@N intake filter. Thanks for the help. What is all this about datalogging? Thanks, Jake.
