o2 housing question

i was looking through the o2 housing and i saw two different ones... the one that vents to the atmosphere and the one that dumps back into the d/p... are they different for internal and external wastegaste? or what are the differences? thanks for the help

The differences are one dumps the wastegate into the atmosphere and one dumps it back into the exhaust. Its REALLY loud with the one that dumps it into the atmosphere.

Wether you have an internal or external wastegate you still have the choice of dumping to the atmosphere or venting back into the intake.

You have a regular o2 housing with choices of dumping to the atmosphere

or back into the exhaust which is just like stock.

You have a o2 housing with a mount for the external wastegate with the choices of dumping to the atmosphere

thanks larryd.. do they make any difference between dumping back into the exhaust or dumping to the atmosphere.. performance wise.. or is it really just for noises? thanks

Ive heard that dumping to the atmosphere should eliminate any possability of boost creep and maybe pick up a few hp because of the free flow of air out the dump rather then back into the exhaust but I dont know how truthful either statement is.

One thing to keep in mind is odds are you will NOT pass emissions with a dump tube.

yeah thats what i was thinking... im consindering on buyin an open (dumping to the atmosphere) o2 housing when i get my d/p.. i beleive i saw one of the videos on here with that dsm with an open o2 housing.. it sounded bad ass..hehe

i hear its only wen u go into boost.. i want to get external dump.. but if the time ever comes where i have no choice to recirculate back to the dp.. it shouldnt be that hard to reroute it.. some kind of exhaust shop should be able to do it no?

one of my buddies has an open w/out the wastegaste sitting at home... i might bolt that on to see how it sounds and see if notice any difference. he just got a new o2 housing with the wastegaste that dumps back into the exhaust... so i don't think he'll be needing the open one anymore

When you say loud what do you guys mean? What does it sound like???
Im considering buying one, because it's cheaper then buying one that recycles...

Well loud as in exhaust coming right from the motor in to the atmoshpere, it should only happen doing full boost.

i haven't gotten a chance to put on the open o2 housing, but i did drop my cat-back.. and ran an open d/p... and wow it is loud as f*ck... you can hear the turbo spooling and dis-spooling.. i have the cat-back back on.. i can't wait to hear an open o2 housing.

A first gen that was venting passed me the other day, it sounded like an airplane taking off. It seriously hurt my ears - it was awesome

I've seen a setup where an external wastegate mounted from the exhaust housing could be dumped into the exhaust, but then switched, via a removable section that connected the external wastegate to the downpipe using flanges, to run a dump tube that was external. Same could be done for an o2 mounted external gate. Off course, some kind of block off plate was used to cover the now open flange on the downpipe. I believe it was in one of the dumptube/exhaust threads that i read a few weeks back where members were discussing dumps on the FP30 series turbos. It probably only took 5 minutes and a 12mm socket to go from legal to illegal....SICK

even though this thread started 2 years ago () this is what i purchased from dnperformance and i love it. i did end up scraping the wastegate that came with it for a tial 38mm. http://www.dnperformance.com/images/extkit_05.jpg
