I know you guys are gonna be biased to a DSM, but right now I have a 99 GST with 3" Turbo-back, Intake, ACT 2100, Blitz EBC, RFL bov, UICP.

Well, i am strongly considering getting an 01' Cobra. But I wanted some advice. I am partial to my eclipse....but a 320hp V8 isn't a bad platform to work off.

I wouldn't even consider it unless it is an 03' cobra. Even then with all the money you would be spending just to purchase the car, not including mods, you could spend that on the dsm and spank almost any cobra around. Thats just my opinion, but ultimatly the decision is yours. :thumb: :dsm: :thumb:
 
If you deside to get a mustang and not a 03' ( b/c the moeny ) get the mach 1 !! Its a 01-02' cobra motor, but its lighter than the 01-02' cobra b/c it has a live axle and not IRS !! 500LBS. lighter !!! A guy at work has one, its pretty sweet, and I hate ford...

God STI WRX it 300 HP and 300 torque !!!! Thats sick, no radio though, it even has a lightened rear window !!!
 
Sell the gst and get a gsx. Then you'll spank just about anything off the line. Plus you see too many mudstains around anyway. Go test drive a gsx, that will change your mind.
 
Well I can get an 01' cobra with less that 20k on it for 20 grand. And if I got a GSX it would have to be a 99 with low miles and that would cost almost the same amount.

I just figured for 20k I could put about 4 into the motor and be running low 12's high 11's with nitrous before I supercharged it..
 
Dude, First off, MUSTANGS SUCK (exluding the 03 cobra). I can understand not wanting a GST because they just plain can't hook up, but think about it, 20K for a 01cobra=high insurance and there not that fast and probobaly not that good in bad weather, or a 97-99 GSX for about 15-18K sweet looking car, easy to get in the 12's and not as much on insurance. Oh, did i forget to mention that with AWD it will out handle just about anything, drive in all wheather (except blizards), and it will just plain launch its wheels off all day long, also V8 gas milage sux. But yeah like the other guy said, if you punk out and but a stang, get the mach1 there are pretty cool, and i also HATE FORD. They're JUNK.

I love my DSM, but I respect other cars. All cars can be made for a price. I hate it when I go on other boards and I see people bashing DSM's. Guess we do the same thing :(
 
For anyone that says that mustangs are crap lets see a stock bottom end dsm take 1000 hp without breaking. 98 and up cobras have forged internals straight from ford. It doesn't take much to make any8 cylinder out perform a 4 cylinder especially if your judging it on a hp to dollar ratio. It would take $4000-$5000 to ge you into the 10's solid with a 2001 cobra with it still being streetable(with your choice supercharger, turbo, nitrous). If you were to even go back and look at the 5.0's they have so much potential, I have one right now that runs low 11's all motor, with about $4000 in the motor.
 
dont get me wrong my eclipse is a good car but if your looking for the little extra umph for less money go for a v-8, nothing will touch you in the long run

This coming from someone with a gsx that has no mods. Obviously you haven't been in a heavily modded gsx. Plus no mustang will touch you on the street from a dig.

So a 01' cobra with IRS is going to run 10's on Drag radails right ? B/c slicks will snap a IRS like a twig... Everything on a cobra is big money to mod. Now the old fox body is a different story, minus the POS T-5 tranny, I broke two in 6 months on drag radails.

BTW, I own a focus, and I had a foxbody stang, FORD SUCKS, Chevy is just numb in the head. GM has and has had the tools/motors to take over, they are just too lame to do it.

At least Ford is using there damn head now !! 03' cobra !! Lightning !!! Mach1 !!

The 94-02' cobra can "suck it". You say 10's cheap in a cobra ? NO, tranny, rear-end, and technology makes it EXPENSIVE to mod. THe 03' is ready to take on ANYTHING !! Billit crank shaft anyone ?

Solution ? Fox body mustang, add a little turbo Grand national motor/tranny and SHAZAM !!! low 11's on a stock turbo, heads, intake, manifolds.... EVERYTHING STOCK !!

I like most cars that deserve respect, not just import or domestic, Ford is waking up, but there older cobras are a waste ( LS-1 guys love cobras for dinner ).

Now a LS-1 F-body is a good exsample of a stock car with 100 shot running low 12's all day, safely.
 
everyone but me on this board is going to say mustangs suck and dont buy one, if you had a GSX I would say keep it, but you are a FWD turbo, which gives you pretty crappy launches, lets face it, you'd get better launches with the cobra anyday, and all the thing needs to put out over 400 RWHP is a supercharger(I'd go for a roots type myself if I had, but I love torque, so...) anyway, you'll get better launches with a cobra, but if I were you I wouldnt buy the 01, I'd buy a nice 96-98, they average around 10k and are easy to find, you'd have an extra 10k to put into it, and by that time you'd be running 11s or 10s, depending on the supercharger and other mods, and thats more than you would ever be able to run with a GST without some serious mods, like Isaid, if you had AWD I'd say stick with the DSM, but as it is....cobra any day, just not the 01, 20k is too much(unless of course you go for an 03)
 
let me explain something, i got a 96 cobra for about 2 years now, i dont have any problems and i dont baby the car either (when comes to drive)... in past 2 years i had to replace the fog light bulb in 2yrs i put about 42,000 miles LOL, i bought the car with 12K -thats it. meybe because cobra has nice rear end and trans.. but its up to you guys YOU CAN BASH say shit about mustangs..and everything... slow..not slow....whatever... i like my dsm also.. btw, if you get a COBRA? you need 2nd car, you will not drive thru winter trust me and you dont want for dialy driving, (gas problems :) -) well thats it..
 
Speaking of 12's in a F-body, my friend has a '02 Z28 with just bolt ons and a heavy duty clutch, and that runs 12.58 JUST BOLT ONS! And mustangs still suck. I'll have to let you guys know how the Evo 8 is when i drive it at work, i'll be one of the first people to drive one "probobly with 1 or 2 miles on it, since i work for a mitsubishi dealer as a tech. If anything buy a Z28 or SS camaro. Trust me they perform well to mods and are just plain fast. oh yeah and no IRS.

I'm not "bashing" the cobra, just don't put it up against a DSM in a speed contest ( 1/4 mile ). I think they look pretty damn good, and a stock one will take a beating its whole life with no problems with good mantance.

16G, AWD, alcoy injection, and most cobras are done for about 1/5th total investment.

a toyoda Camry is a good car, can take a beating, but that doesn't mean you put it up against a AWD light turbo car...

Even my quad cam TT AWD V6 can't touch the bang for buck the DSM represents. This day and age, and turbo is a racers best friend, a factory turbocharged cobra would be unstoppable ( with a live rear axle ). Corbas have some good upgrades, but not cost effective vs the DSM.

BTW: I've gone to 3 FFWs and seen some sweet stangs, I don't HATE HATE HATE them, its just ford claims 305HP on 96-99' cobra and I saw one dyno with longtubes, x-pipe, flow masters, and few other small bolt-ons and made 243HP, that's not good from a 4.6 Quad cam V8.

01-02' cobra NOT BAD AT ALL, they are faster than most people think !! 03' god like, but a turbo live axle version would destroy just about anything !!!

And let me see one Ford 302 make that power without splitting like an egg. Don't be a moron, everyone knows the Ford two bolt mains make the block split anywhere North of 500hp.

Show me ANY Mustang that can run my 12.52@109mph for the grand total of $75. You can't.
