while this is specific to the 1G, i have done some searching but haven't come up with the answer to my question...

Is the AC Thermo-switch port a viable option for placing an aftermarket coolant temperature sensor, this is for an aftermarket gauge and fan controller unit.

Or,

Should i swap it into the EGR sensor port? A/C wasn't an option on this car so the port was just plugged.

My concern is in relation to were the sensor is taking its readings in the thermostat housing and proper control of the fans.

anywhere the sensor can read the temperature of the coolant, would work i believe. where else could it do its job? why move it i would leave it where its at, i would move it to the lower part where the factory has it.

Any of them except the A/C temp sensor location as its above the thermostat. While the therm is closed it will not be reading the actual coolant temp in the engine. The other 3 locations are reading the actual temp of the coolant from the head.

i pretty much figuired i was going to have to swap the aftermarket temp sensor into the EGR sensor port. I have no plans currently to remove the EGR at this point.

The variations in these thermostat housings is frustrating! If you are wanting a coolant temp sensor for turning on fans, the one in the radiator should work, which turns on the stock fans...or am I missing something?

I just had to ask a question a couple days ago regarding this thermostat housing setup on a customers car:

I swapped out the radiator and fans, hence the need for viable spot for the aftermarket sender. the fans will be operated by a standalone unit.

I am looking to install a aftermarket gauge and wondering if I could just take off the EGR vac ports (mine is deleted) and just install it there. It is a Megan racing if that matters.

You could just use an adapter like this in the upper radiator line:
