Well my order came in the mail today. AGP L3R I got a good deal on it from Unreal. The only thing I was surprized about was that I assumed that the wastegate hole would have the flapper removed and set up for the wastegate on a 02 housing like the one in the picture. I guess thats what I get for assuming. As you can see the flapper is welded shut. I guess this means I have to (A) tap my current exhaust manifold for the wastegate (B) buy a custom exhaust manifold made for an external (C) Port out that wastegate hole on the turbo myself and remove the welded flapper (D) just use it as a 1300 dollar paper weight.

Does anyone know if option C is even recommended? I would really like to use the 02 housing setup I have with this turbo but I dont want to mess this turbo up and be left with option D no matter what.

Well here are the beauty shots.

You could take the exhaust housing off and drill/grind the original flapper out. You might be able to use a "flame axe" to remove it but you would have to have a steady hand. Perhaps a local machine shop could help you out.

I saw that turbo when it was still on the car. It's a very nice peice.

Then again I say AGP turbos all the time since I'm always at kevins house bugging him about something. :D

If it was mine, I would break 3 drill bits trying to drill it out, then curse loudly and finally take it to our machine shop and have him remove it however he sees fit. Not that I've ever done those things... ;)

Ever ride in the car with it installed? I was just going to get a spool comparision between your L2R and it. I figure its going to take it awhile to reach full boost but I figure the amount it does make in the 3-4k rpm range will still be enough to pull pretty good.:D

I was on AGP's website today trying to find out what was so speacial about the "L_R Turbos" and i came across the L1R, L2R, and L3R and i took a glance at the L3R turbo and knew that it must have been a massive turbo, but when i saw the picture of yours next to that beer bottle, it didn't hesitate to use that picture as my new Windows Desktop background picture. That is the absolutely largest turbo i have ever layed my eyes on. Way to go man, let us all know what it's like after the install.

Andrew,

If you want to contact us directly, we can get you the right housing you need if the machine shop doesn't want to do it.
