i got an automoter phantom EGT.. it reads up to 1600 F

where do i tap for it? in the exhaust mani on the #1 runner i know.. but how close/far from the motor? also what is a NORMAL cruising temp? what is too hot at WOT?

im lost.. people keeps telling me "it depends"

DEPENDS ON WHAT!! should i just drive till my motor explodes and then say "well i guess xxxx is too hot, wont let it get that high again"
??

there should be SOME ballpark number where "ok if you get much over XXXX you should start to be concerned.."

uuggh, HELP!

I have an autometer EGT and my probe is about 2in from the head.

If I'm at WOT and my EGTs start getting above 1650 (the needle will keep going even though the numbers on the gauge stops), I shut it down. When Cruising I normally see between 1000 and 1300

generally, you want to keep it under 1650. if you are running through the gears, you should be near this at the end of 3rd, but not above. @ 1650 things start to melt. cruising temps will vary widely. I depends a lot on which version of the ecu you have and how strict it's emissions programming is.

just out of curiosity, how much did you all pay for your egt and did it come with everything you needed, also where did you get it from?,, thanks

I have a 2" Autometer Sport Comp EGT and it came with everything I need (gauge and probe) for $105 + shipping on EBAY

this is debateable, but i think most do it with the mani on and the engine running to blow the shavings back in your face as opposed to going through the turbo

i cant tap 2 in from the head.. ill hit the engine hanger thingy.. and thats FAR closer than any install ive ever read about.. the manual says to tap 1-2 inches from the EXHAUST PORT on the turbo.. thats pretty far down the runner..

what concerns me is the length of the probe.. that bastard is LONG im afraid its not gonna fit.. ot that the tip will be against the header wall... im about to start drilling in a few min.. ive got a pretty meaty spot picked out im just scared in general about doing this..
