I have an msd dis 2 ignition system that came mostly wired when I bought my car. I was looking at the wire diagrams and it looked relatively simple to figure out what was done or needed to be. Upon looking at what was in the car I found that there was a dual ignition adapter which I can find no information on or instructions for in the wire diagrams. What the hell is this thing needed for and where can i find out how it is supose to be connected into the system? I tried looking on the internet but i didn't even find the unit on msd's website.

As quoted from the March-April 2003 Summit racing catalog

MSD Dual Channel Ignition Adapter
Designed for use in vehicles utilizing dual coil packs. It simulates the original coil signal so the ECU will properly trigger both the tach and fuel injection when a DIS ignition is installed. Vehicles using a DIS-2 ignition require only one adapter, while DIS-4 applications require two.

MSD-8912..........................................................each $44.69

This is the only thing I could find for you. Hope it helps.

Is this 8912 a required part for the MSD DIS2 to work on a dsm or can you use the dis 2 with no additional parts?

From what i read on the link above you don't need any additional parts so I'm confused as to what that part up there is for.

This is what I found. The car doesn't necessarily need the unit to run with the system. the unit goes between the output of the msd to the factory ecu coil connector. Without the unit the signal can be to weak or something like that and the ecu will not be able to properly adjust the fuel injection and other rpm functions. So basicly if your car is haveing problems running with the msd (ex. won't run or dies after a minute or two) than the unit is supose to fix the problem. for us you need one unit, if your car has four coils than you need two units. one per every two coils.
