Why a DSM?

Currently I won a 93 miata that i was thinking of turbocharging. HOWEVER, after lurking on several boards(DSM,240SX etc..) I am currently re-thinking my strategy..heres why....With a1993 miata the most horsepower I will bea ble to muster without changing the rear end is about 180rwhp..That puts me in the 14's in the 1/4..I could spend about $2500-$3000 on the kit and proper upgrades to keep it running well. To get 250rwhp I would need a new rear end and a bigger turbo kit with full electronics..that type of package would be somewhere around $6000 or better then i am streesing the 1.6 liter motor. I could always upgrade to teh 94 and up 1.8 liter motor and be safe but theres more $$$..ANYWAY, the reason I am posting is to find out what kind of speed can be made form a turbo DSM for low$$$$'s mod-wise.. I have searched autotrader and ebay and found many 95-97 for around $5000 or so(some a little more but still reasonable) now the ones I found at that price are FWD not AWD..As budget IS a concern I will probably opt for the fwd.
My goal...Supercar type 0-60 accel(C5,Viper,Lotus) decent handling for an economical price..I DONT need an 11 sec car..Hell I dont need a 15 sec car ..but I would like something that will run 13's at a reasonable cost..
BTW great site and alot of nice cars around here..Appreciate any info you might give..(yes Ive read the FAQ's..they dont mean THAT much too me since I dont own a DSM)
Oh my 2nd car was a plymouth laser 2.0 NON-turbo..about 12 years ago.

If you want supercar 0-60 doing that in a FWD car will be tough. I can go on for days about DSMs and making power. I have a friend that has a Miata and there is just nothing for it unless you go all out. If you are looking for the perfect fwd DSM buy LarryD's

you want to run 13's? hmm...you can do that with less than $2000 in mods depending on how far into the 13's you want to go.

Good point! I will say that the 93 and older have cheaper options to start but teh $$'s pile up quickly ..for example a greddy turbo kit for the 1.6 is about $1300..tighten the wastegate and youre at about 7 psi(5 psi out of the box) it comes w/a cheap afpr and no intercooler. @ 7psi that should be around 150 wheel hp..barely cracking 14's..

To get me anymore I need an IC..exhaust treatment(cat back bigger DP etc..) you can see the problem here..more and more and more...

So obviously I am better off going AWD..OK IF I can find a reasonably priced AWD how many $$$'s away am I from a mid 13 second car..and a supercar like 0-60..

Figure about 2-3k. Clutch, full exhaust, safc, t28, fuel pump etc and you are there.

my buddy also has a miata he has the greddy kit in it he ran a 13.0 running 10 psi with supporting mods, hes selling his kit now for $2300 but the car was capable of handling up to 20 psi.. somethign to think bout

he had a gray fwd 2g. then he bought a gray awd 2g. he switched all his stuff from the fwd to the awd and now has an extra fwd turbo 2g.
