I have a stock 92 talon with a 2.5 inch exhaust. No boost controller and the turbo reads 10 psi on my autometer gauge. I am wondering how much advance can I safely run with the 91 octane crap I get around here. I just want a little more power for cheap. The car is bone stock with just the exhaust and I won't be turning the boost up. Also what is the stock timing supposed to be? I assume that you can adjust the timing by setting the timing like on normal cars with a timing light.

You can safely advance it about 3degrees, for a little extra protection do the fuel pump rewire http://www.vfaq.com/mods/pump-relay.html You can also give yourself a little more boost buy removing the BCS restriction in your factory Boost controller This will safely turn up the boost 1-2PSI, that and a K&N drop in can do wonders. You can even get a manual boost controller and turn it up to about 14-15PSI most people don't have any problems doing this, unless your turbo is shot.

I have my eclipse set at 13 psi with 8 degrees advance and it's fine. I am not getting any type of knock at all. Yes 8 is just about pushing it. I tried to set it at 10 but I got knock then, so I bumped it down to 8 and it's fine. But then again my turbo eclipse just sees track use, it's used for one thing only and thats for racing is not my daily driver so I don't care if I do blow it.

Damn, must be nice wit a 8 degree advance, my only question is how would i go about advancing my timing? i don't have a distributor, (as we all know) and i don't have cam gears. is there another way?

Calvin, unless your car is not healthy, turning up the boost a few pounds is not going to hurt it, and it will give you WAY more power than a few deg of timing advance will.

A manual boost controller can be had for $36-$50 for a good reliable one, or you can make one for under $15. Really. I did mine for $13.58 canadian. It is not totally perfect(1-2psi spike) but it is close.

or for the home made jobs, just search for what you need. And it doesn't have to be for DSM cars. Almost any turbo car will use the same principle setup for its controller. I posted a pic of a schematic on this forum a few weeks ago, so I can't attach the pic of it. If you search for it or my posts you will see it. Failing that I can send it to you. There are lots of ideas out there.

oh, and stay away from the "bleeder" style ones. The fellow at the second link explains it well.

best of luck

You can install a 1G cam angle sensor, buy an Apex ITC, or go standalone. A 1G CAS is easy to install and costs about 70 bucks.

ok i have a 92 laser rs AWD, so i have the CAS, but how does that advance my timing??
