Are you able to tune that kind of a package correctly? If not I would ask them if they provide a tuner along in the package. ;) Yeah the package might run 10's if in the hands of a very experienced tuner and driver, but on the other hand maybe a waste to the average DSM owner who does'nt have experince to make the package work "correctly". Is it worth it to you? If so make some more inquiries to see if its what you want. Sounds like a very big jump to make if your just getting into the game.

Low 11s are attainable with 5-6 thousand dollars in mods. It depends on how street legal you want to make the car.

So, having said that, anyone is a moron for spending 17.5k to run 10s.

10 second car? Heck, its possible to have a 9 second street legal car even! I read about a 9 second supra in turbo performance (i think it was this mag) that was a street driven car. I can tell you this though, it sure had one big @ss turbo if ya know what i mean. I thought it was sweet.

for everyone who says 17,500 is alot, youd be suprised how fast $$ adds up when building a race car.

It says on their website "10 second package CALL".. Im assuming you called them for this information.. Id like to know the details of exactly what you get for 17,500 :)

Well if you build things properly from the start, you won't be breaking too much.

Look at Shepard's entire 2001 racing season...he didn't break a single part in an entire years worth of 9 second timeslips. Just do it right the first time!

there is no such thing as doing it right the first time with DSMs.. its all about trying and trying and trying again to get it right.. not a simple bolt on affair to run 10s :)

i have spent like 20 grand at least and i can barly hit 11.72 ..... and its because i went through like 5 different set up's.... you just need to know what you are going to do before you do it ... is it a street car or a drag car ... you cant have both and expect for everything to fly perfect......

This isn't really correct...With the amount of time dsm's have ben around we all know what works. I could put together a list of parts that would be capable od getting a car into the 10's. But the rest, tuning and having enough luck to not break a lot of parts is another story....

that is essentially what I meant. I know we have parts that are guaranteed to get you there, but that doesnt mean you can tune the car to save your life and you wont be breaking stuff left and right :)

What??

I don’t know about 18k. Once you start up adding every little piece like suspension and safety items I think you would find it costs a bit more. Not saying it can happen at that price it would just be tight.

However if you are AT you can throw all that out the window. Because tranny issues will be a HUGE problem for you.

it seems a bit much, but i would say something around 15k total
parts, SAFETY, and little things here and there

if i can spend 2k on a fuel system. and 2k on a turbo.
there is 4k
thats not including tuning, controllers. ecu's blah blah blah

you get the idea.

I have to agree with Larry. $17,500- is an easy price to get near and surpass when building a fast car and doing it properly. Fuel systems, engines, turbo/intercooler package, fuel/engine control, clutches, gauges, wheel and tire combination, suspension, rollbar, safety harness's. These are just some points that come to mind off the top of my head. Its simple....... Go fast projects cost money........ alot of it.

Amen to that. My budget is around that much, and though I have a Galant which is of course a good amount heavier than your T/E/L's I will see nowhere near 10's...

Well, maybe near tens... ;) :shhh:

So it looks like you haven't read through this page yet:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/tuning-guide/
You can find the link up in the top navigation of this site.

The one thing you must keep in mind here - unless you're taking your car to Magnus for them to put this $17k package together and tune it correctly, you ain't runnin 10's. I don't care if you spend $25k - unless you are awesome at tuning, or you're planning on taking the car to a very reputable shop, you won't see a 10 second time slip with these cars.

Everyone seems to think it's as simple as buying the parts. Not so - yeah, of course you need the right parts, but once you get those parts bolted on, the real work begins. These aren't V8's that will just run fast out of the box. If you want to see real power from a DSM, you'll need to learn more than you ever thought you would about how cars work. Timing, knock count, EGT, fuel maps, compressor flow maps, air/fuel ratio, fuel pressure... just a few of the terms that you'll have to know, and know how they relate to your car in order to even attempt running a 10 second quarter mile.

Maybe you could let us know what comes with the $17k package.
