ojai,
Ok I was just wondering what might be some of the Pro's/Con's of getting a 90 GSX compared to a 91-94 GSX ? Ive heard that the trannies are alittle weaker(syncro's) that a few things for a 91+ GSX arent compatable for 90 GSX ect... if you could tell me the other con's you might no about. Then for Pro's they come with a 6bolt ect.... if you could tell me the pro's of the 90 gsx that would be great! It can do with anything from engine, performance parts, electrical(wiring, ecu, ect..) suspension, interior, and anything else you can think of. Thanks:thumb:

Ok I no for the most part that there the same. But my goal in the end is for it to be in the mid to high 11's. Im used to 2g's (95gst) but I have heard of a few thing being different. I just want to no if there is anything to look out for Example maybe there oil pumps are alot weaker than the 91-94 gsx's. If there is any reason that i should maybe stay away from the 90 gsx's or should be more inclinded to get one. It would help alot. Im right now looking for a new dsm 1g and was thinking of getting a 90 gsx unless there are good reasons to stay away from them. Thanks

The only differences worth noting are the electronics being different, the TB and sensors, and the oil cooler. The 90 oil coolers are air cooled rather than water cooled. A 90 GSX is still an AWD 1st gen DSM. Get it :)

Get a '92, stronger 6-bolt motor and 4-bolt rear MUCH stronger than 90-91 3-bolt rearend. 90 ecu's are different than the 91-94. These differences don't mean much if you only want a 13-14sec car, but if you want to go faster the '92 will save you money.

What is stronger in the 92 motor compared to the 90 motor? Also, a 92 6 bolt 4 bolt is what I spent 2 months looking for, all I found were 7 bolt 4 bolts you need to be careful. I just settled on a 90 awd Talon, and picked up a 4 bolt rear for $400 and big brakes for $100. ECU's are different in 90 compared to 91-94 and it is somewhat difficult to find a 90 e-prom ecu. But like what DSM91 said, it is still a awd 1st gen so get it. Good luck.

Steve

90-92 6-bolts have bigger rods than the 93-up 7-bolt motors, that is what I was talking about. 6-bolt motor, 4-bolt rear, best of both worlds. They are not too hard to find, all the 92's I have seen were 6-bolt's.

but '90s have a milder exhaust cam. Upgrading to a later 1g exhaust cam will give you more power up top. Of course, upgrading to aftermarket is even better.

not a really big deal, but the 90 shifter assembly has a really long throw. i plan on upgrading to a 91-94 shifter in the near future.

Are you serious? I've never heard of anything like this before.

i know how you feel about the really long shifter all i did was took mine out and put it on a miter saw and cut about an inch and a half off right after the bend in the shifter and mig welded it back together and put a smaller shifter knob on it and it improved it alot just thought you might try that instead of going out and spending the money on a short throw. just make sure you have a spare shifter that way you're not SOL if you screw up on the first one.

Civics are like tampons...............Every p***y needs one

the ecu, mechanical cruise control, tranny has weaker 2nd gear, but stronger 3rd and 4th, 3 bolt rear, milder exhaust cam...and thats about it.

nothing too hard to replace or redo when the time comes(like the 3 bolt)..so if you can find a good deal, jump on it.

well I personaly say go for the 90. Just my personal pref but eh.

The 90's also have electronic cruse not mechanical.

And i have found just by changeing the shift knob from the stocker on the 90 to just a small weighted ball type it is ALOT easier to shift. I know some one will chime in and say the throw is the same and inside the shifter it is but up top it makes a big deference.

also 90's are normaly a little cheaper.. and so there ECU's are deferent than the rest, it's not that hard to swtich them out to latter model from what i read as long as i dont want the cruse control...

god yes,the 90 shifters have quite a long throw,i ditched mine and swapped in the whole 91 TSi shifter assembly.. much better, except it dose'nt match the cables or something and its got no bumpstop for the upstroke,to hell with it.

90 awd's rule over all other awd's. every con mentioned on this thread is easily fixed. upgrade the three bolt rear and throw in some hks cams and your set. they also look a hell of a lot better than 92-94 cars.

yea, do the 90 run slower 1/4 mile times stock than the 91+ cars? just wondering because of the "long throw" and "milder exhuast cam"
