Exhaust on a budget, how about a QTP cut out?

I am lookin to get my car into the mid to high 12's eventually. My next mod will be a free flowing exhaust. For a really cheap exhaust, would you guys recommend one of those QTP exhaust valves? I think the website is www.quicktimeperformance.com If I used this valve I could keep my resonators, cat, and muffler. It would be a total sleeper. What do you guys think about this mod? I would put the Y pipe right after the O2 sensor housing, right? Any comments or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks alot, Matt

well, it would sound bad and smell bad whether you're using it or not because it would leak. When you do use it it will be very loud, and you will probably encounter a LOT of boost creep. I personally wouldnt do it, but if you are willing to live with that stuff then go for it. It all depends on what you will put up with to save some money.

Sting0004: The quick time performance cutout is a very high quility cutout. I just got one for my 1g and can't wait to put it on. I personally think there is nothing but good things to come from adding these cutouts to our DSM's. If you want one give Barry a call at quick time, he is a great guy and a former DSM owner so he knows a lot about our car's. For the position you would want it right before the cat. Later

Antilles: Have you had any experience with a exhaust cutout? If not then how can you say it is going to smell and sound bad when closed. And when it is opened ofcoarse it is going to sound loud that is a no brainer. And how can you say that it will leak for sure. Well I have gotten a hands on demonstration on the quick time setup and it seals perfectly no leaking whatsoever and when it is closed I don't smell anything but normal exhaust smell from the back of the car. Maybe other cutouts leak but the quick time performance setup is a must have :thumb: My 2 cent's take it or leave it.

Fair enough. My experience it that cutouts normally leak. especially if the cutout is say 2.5" compared to the stock downpipe which is 2.25". then it will almost certainly leak. As for boost creep, i have taken my catback off and even with a ported O2 housing i get MASSIVE creep. I would live with the sound and the smell, but if it creeps its useless IMO.

my friend has a 3" cut out and it creeps badly.

He doesn't even use his boost controller to get boost anymore, he just adjusts the amount of the cut out's opening so it creeps to the boost he wants :)
