ok, a while ago I saw a thread on here about an exhaust component that you attached in place of the catalytic converter or something, and when you flipped a switch it opened up on the side and let all the exhaust gasses bypass the rest of the piping/muffler. Im looking for it and as hard as I search, I cant find the thread or the product! someone please help me!

all that does is allow you to muffle your 3" exhaust.

I think what you are looking for it a y-pipe that goes into your catback, and the other end goes straight to the atmosphere and can be opened with a lever.

Oh I see what you are saying. That person said he used it to muffle his exhaust but I see what you mean by using it on a y-pipe to electronically control it opening.
But does it seal completely when closed?

the guy says that its almost a complete seal, I emailed him and he said that after he got it he did some tests, and VERY little air gets out, he said it stops 99.9% of the air.

ZSPTurbo: I just bought an Electric exhaust cutout for my 1st gen. It is a really nice unit and I am sure it will suit your needs. Go to www.quicktimeperformance.com. Take a look at it, give Barry a call up he is the owner and is very cool and will answer any ?'s you have about it. I don't have it on the car yet but I will let you know how it performs when I put it on. I went and picked up the product from Barry at quicktime and he showed me how it worked right in front of me and also showed me how he builds them and gave me a demonstration outside, of what his LS1 Camaro SS sounds like with his product. It was freaking nuts when it was opened, and what impressed me was how good it sealed up when it was closed. So go check it out let me know what you think and if you or anyone else have any ?'s to ask me let me know. Talk to you later.

Now my queston is this, look at this pic:

Now when this valve is closed, wouldnt it cause a "dead-stop" for the exhaust and hence cause backpressure and the exhaust to swirl around in that area of the exhaust:confused:

If you were to dyno your car how it is now, and then will this y-pipe installed (but closed) would you lose hp?

QTP! thats what it was! and I guess you might lose an hp or 2, but whenever you would want hp, just flip the switch :)

98tsiawd: I really don't think you would lose any power. Maybe you would on a internally gated car where the exhaust has only one way to go and that is threw the exhaust system and maybe with the addition of the y pipe and with it closed maybe that would dissrupt the flow a little. With a car with a dump mod or external wastegate the exhaust is dumping out and there is less exhaust to dissrupt. Then ofcoarse open it up and that's a no brainer. I hear what you are trying to say and I might be thinking about this all wrong but I think if there are any loses they will be minimal. Well I am going to dyno it but I am only dynoing it with the addition of the y pipe so unless someone else dyno's there car first then adds it then dyno's it we will never know. But we will see if this little toy increases spool up and maybe gain's some power and torque to go along with it. I will keep you posted. later

you think the part isnt worth it? ok, here is how I see that it is:

if you want a free flowing exhaust, instead of getting a manifold, o2 sensor housing, downpipe, high flow cat, and catback system, and getting approx 20 hp, and spending almost 1500, you can just get manifold, o2 sensor housing, and if you like, a muffler. you probably get 30 hp with it open, the car stays quiet when you want it to, and you spend not even 700. sounds worth it to me.
