I just ordered a new sbr g60-1 hybrid, from slowboyracing obviously, and he gave me the option of the tso4 compressor housing. I took him up on this offer and am just wondering how much of a difference this will make in spoolup time and lag? The turbo has the stage 3 turbine wheel..ported housing. My car is..well check my mod list if you want to know more bout my car. BTW i am building up my motor soon, so figure that into the picture too, plan on 8.8:1 ross pistons with eagle rods..etc. Also, I had a frank 4 before and was happy with the spoolup and lag on that, just wondering if anyone knows how much different this turbo will spool? I will have it in about 2 weeks, so hopefully find out then. Thanks, Nate

I cannot comment on spool, but installation will be a PITA. I had enough trouble (as have others) of fitting a TO4E housing on a DSM. I dented my water pipe and completely removed the water neck (for stock coolant return). It was tight! You have chosen an even LARGER compressor housing. Good luck!

Hmm, well thanks for replying. If anyone has any info on if it will increase the lag much and stuff like that that would be useful, im not worried about installing it. And for Garberg, just shutup. LOL (its a local thing) Anyways, thanks for the posts. Nate

From a technical standpoint, I wish I could explain why the T04E housing is better. Unfortunately, I can't, due to my lack of experience and technical knowledge. The T04S DOES create slightly more lag than the E, due to being a larger housing.
It was explained to me by Robert Young at Forced Performance as to why the E housing was better. Something to do with the size of our motor and whatnot. Maybe one of the turbo guru's can explain it better.

As for that TMO chip, I'm currently waiting on payment from someone, and have a list of people waiting to hear about the chip as well.

Thanks,
Mike

told ya to get the spacer;)

on a 1g the tso4 housing should fit right in with a .500 spack plate and long arp manifold studs.

Yep, you did! ;) But, I didn't really want to run it that way. I'll post some pics soon. I'm happy with the install. I have about 1/32-1/16" clearance between compressor housing and water pipe. I whacked the stock coolant return neck off completely and put a patch there. Welded a -06 AN fitting further down to take care of coolant return. It looks nice and should work great.

I bought my ET turbo from Scott at VPE. I spoke with him this week and mentioned that I had heard a "few" people having failures of their ET turbos shortly after install. He had heard the same and said that ET was saying oil contaminiation. I sent my braided oil line back to him to have a small oil filter installed inline. If mine goes out, we can pretty much rule out oil contamination.

So, I'm waiting on that to get back and I still have to finish up with my new IC (air/water setup). Hope to be running the thing within the next few weeks. Still lots of stuff to do with the IC setup. Later.

thats actually a very good idea, i should have done that when i got mine. im not sure if they will claim that on my turbo failure. but i wont know untill it gets set back. its cold as the devil down here. have not had a good warm day to pull it off.

Kinda like what comes in the install kit when you buy an L2R.

The Tso4 cover will fit without much more of a dent equired by the to4e cover. As for lag, it is a minimal difference, and the larger cover flows a few more CFM......

I had took of my to4e, and bolted up a turbo with the tso4 cover, and did not have to dent the water pipe at all any more than what it was.

A spacer is a nice idea, just do not like having two gaskets :) But, I have heard many people use them with great results.

Spool up... Yes, smaller turbos may get him by a few feet while he is "spooling" but once it hits full song... You will be looking at his tail lights.

yup...spacer plate is ghetto, so if you wanna be like me, go for it. have fun shifting @ 8200 to go fast. have fun pulling tranny's. have fun filling NOS bottles....gotta have 2 also...i suppose, itll look cool in the engine bay, people will be scared by its size, which happens to me alot, babes get scared....

JK nate....me and al love you.

haha, garberg, if i was as ghetto as you I would have an industrial size package of JB weld in the top drawer of my toolbox..not to mention buy all of my tools at harbor freight. So babes get scared when they see how small yours is? your 14b that is.....;) bye the way, harbor freight is pimp, just not for anything important. LOL, that included 1/2" impact sockets...you want to tell me how good those worked adam?? haha anyways, i dont care you guys can say whatever you want, you WILL obviously spool up faster with a 14b, and obviously i dont really care, otherwise i wouldnt have boughten a bigger turbo. I will just come ride in your car when i want to feel instant boost. :thumb: Nate

nate-
harbor freight is horrible. $10 impact socket sets defenitly dont work, but the JB always works.
instant boost is what its all about. your car feels like a supercharged v8 it spooled so slow. now....you need the big blue's to spool it.
by the way...this is me and al's creation, hangs on the wall...
also...we are NOT rice. we just were bored...
