I am just curious about something that I came across the other day.

I was thinking about ppl using race gas with 110 octane and similar..
You guys in the states have 91octane gas maybe 93 octane pumpgas if I understand correctly? well we have up to 98 unleaded fuel in the pumps here and I was wondering how that effects the engine and the power?
if a car runs a certain power/time with 91 octane gas..would it make any difference if you ran on 98 instead?Does the power increase slightly with this or not?Since I am turning up boost and power in my car and I can only compare to you guys in the states I was jut curious..nothing serious about this but just a question for the fun of it..anyone have any ideas?
This is just something I thought of the other day but I couldnt really find anything on it and thought I'd turn to you guys:))

Is your car a turbo? a lot of people here use 100 oct and it works just fine. 98 octane is good for at least a few more psi of boost.

I used to mix 110 octane race gas with pump gas about 1 to 5. I had good results even with that much and im sure that was only about 94 or 95 octane.

well on the gas fuel door or gauges it says Premium Only which mens 92+ i would never go lower then 93.... i think 98 equals to 93 but iam not 100% sure...

depends on how it is rated...if the 98 is the ron, then yes, it is about the same as our 92-93 which is R+M/2

higher octane gas allows you to run more boost without getting knock. It doesnt give you more power, it allows you to make more power without blowing up your engine.

Yes I understtod the boost/octane part..and that was what I was looking for.I asked the wrong way in my question:) I meant to ask if I could use higher boost(more power) due to the fact that we have higher octane number here.

It depends on how they measure octane where you live. If it's (R+M)/2, then yes. But if it's just R (or RON, which is the same thing) as someone above mentioned, then probably not. You'll need to find out how they're measuring octane there-- here, it's listed on the pump that the (R+M)/2 method is used.

Ok so I got the info neded now from the biggest petrolcompany here (statoil)We use RON as a messurment on the gasoline here.
Our 98octane equals your 93 octane in "California gasoline" as far as quality is concerned but with some smaller improvements due to higher environmental issues and demands.

I would keep the boost lower then until you have some way of logging and then use maybe some toluene or xylene for a few higher boost runs.

Well the logging will be made with a Pocket logger fors tarters and I will use the SAFC II as my tuning devidce so I will be ok I think.
Thanx all of you for the good advices and damn its nice to be a DSM Tuner memeber for sure:)

The fuel is richer the higher in octane you go ( but never resort to leaded) which is esential when it comes to boosting. The higher the octane, the higher you can boost (if all supporting mods are there, most importantly fmic, bigger fuel pump, etc...) Im not explaining the science behind it because i dont understand it well enough to share but that is the basic idea.
