Ok, so all I did was put a tranny in my wifes 91 tsi....no big deal right. I rebuilt the motor and went over everything and it started fine after that, but then i did the tranny and now this? I have replaced everything you can think of except relays ( i.e. : Cas, ECU, Coil Pack, ITU) and its the same result everytime. The only thing is, the previous owner messed up the wiring for all the sensors on the t-stat housing so none are connected at this time, but like i said it started before. Please someone help me out, and if anyone with experience in electrical issues is in the allentown area I would greatly apprettiate some help. Thanks, Ed

Did you check for spark? fuel? air? Not trying to sound like a smart ass but there are only 3 things that will make a motor not start. no spark no air no fuel. Personally I would start with spark first.

pull a plug and ground it then have you wife try to start it. might want to pull the fuse for the injectors (in the fuse box connected to the battery) other wise it might fire!! if you have spark in all the cylinders then I would move onto the air part. Probably easiest to check all the connectors on the maf(if after checking fuel go into testing the maf) then check fuel pressure with a gauge.

The car doesnt have spark, it states that in the title not to sound like a douche about it...all the grounds are connected correctly....im gonna pull the fuel line off and see if its getting fuel, but i def know theres no spark. Ed.

You said that nothing on the thermostat housing is connected, and your coolant temp sensor is on there. When unplugged or broken it will give you a hard time trying to start it.

No problem I just wanted to make sure it was verifiable that there was no spark. A lot of time cars wont start and people jump to the conclusion there is no spark.

My 90 wouldn't start. Had no spark and it wound up being the cam angle sensor. You might try that. If you have 12 volts to the injectors and your coils that's what I would look at first. They do have a nasty habit of not telling you when they decide to quit. They do not have to give you any warning at all.

See if you can borrow one from a friend to test or try one from a salvage yard. I'd bet there's one in the classifieds in here. BTW, I would keep an extra one on hand. I have an extra one for mine.

If that isn't the problem, do some preliminary tests and report your findings.

Good Luck

Ive replaced both the cam angle sensor and the ptu, both with the same results.....like i said hopefully tomorrow i will be able to make sure the fuel pump is working correctly, because i know if the pump isnt good the car will get no spark, or if the relay is bad it wont get spark either. Ed.

Well it has fuel.....so now im at a loss for words...i know its going to be something really really stupid. I am good mechanically with these cars , im just not good at electrical stuff. Ed.
