well i was reading the new super street and the article about the HKS Lancer Evolution, it reads to me in there that its a 4G63 motor but it looks backwards, different block would be a different engine code right? i mention this in the turbo forums because it would mean a direct drop in replacement parts for us DSMers

are you saying its "backwards" b/c the timing belt is on the other side? if thats what you mean well, they have changed which way the engine goes from various cars. one my talon the timing belt faces the drivers side, however eclipses are the other way.

hello and welcome to 1995 mc hammer pants still arent cool and mitsubishi turns most of their 4 cly car engines 180 for better weight distriobution.

All Talons Eclipses and Lasers have the timing belt on the drivers side regardless of year.

The engine is rotated 180 degrees but the turbo is still at the front and the intake manifold is mounted against the firewall. The block is a 4g63 but it has a different head that has the timing belt and pulleys on the other side. It has a beefy transmission which is different also.

The internals are interchangeable. The pistons are 8.8:1 on the new lancers so that is nice, but they are cast.

ahh, so the internals will work, just seems odd that they claimed 700+ hp and made it look easy , thanks anyway guys

actually, lemme see if i have this right 1g, and 1995 2g dsm's have the trans on the passenger side, and the 96-99 dsm's have the tranny on thr drivers side. this was told to me by K Watanabe an engine distributer/importer in Los Angeles.

for this reason a replacement 4g63t is $550.00 instead of $1500+ for my car.

am i wrong?

He's blowing smoke all up your a$$. DSM's 90-99 have the transmission on the passnger side and t-belt on the driver's side. K Wantanabe just wants your money.

I think Mr. K. Iwannabe was talking about the J spec Lancers. That's about the year they reversed the engine/trans on the Lancers over there. So if you're shopping for a JDM engine for your DSM it'll have to be an early one.

they still have a 4g63. The engine was rotated 180 degrees in evo 4 I think for better weight distribution for rally racing. Has your car ever seemed like it was leaning a little to the left? Someone else already posted on the differences, I just thought I'd offer an explanation

To be more correct, the 420A-based (nonturbo) 2G DSMs have the engine on the right-hand side, since they're a US driveline and balanced for the USA.

The turbo DSMs use the Galant VR4 driveline, which was designed for Japan and Australia, and thus have the engine on the left-hand side (because the driver sits on the right where she belongs).
