Is my motor blown?

During a pull my oil plug blew out. Before I knew thats what had happened my car shut off. I noticed my oil pressure was pegged at the bottom. I pull over and sure enough the oil drain plug is missing. I drove about a mile after I heard it blow out. The car won't start.

Is my motor blown or do our cars have a fail safe feature that shuts the car off if oil pressure gets too low?

I wont be able to put oil in the car and replace the plug until stores open this morning.

Then why would you try to start the engine?

The engine was running with no oil anyway.. So the damage would have been done.

I didnt hear any knocking noises when the motor died. And when I crank it I dont hear anything weird. It just cranks and doen't start.

No one knows if our cars have a safety feature that prevents the car from running with no oil in it???

Have you filled the car back up with oil yet? If so, Did you try starting it? The oil drain bolt may not be the only thing that got lost/came off at the time.

You are right. The car has a new drain plug and fresh oil. The fuse for the fuel pump blew, which is the reason the car shut off. I changed that and the car still won't start. I have no spark. I think it's the ECU.

Unfortunately none of the junkyards around here has one.

if you're not getting spark, that is the reason the car is not starting. i had a 1g that had a bad ecu. I went through the steps before I found it being the ecu. I tried alot of parts that did not do anything. I finally checked the ecu and it started right up.

I think HIGHPSI4 is right. I changed the ECU and still no spark.

Ok as it turns out, When I turn the key to start the car the starter fires but it does not turn the motor. I changed the cam-angle sensor and ECU. I know I have fuel. So my conclusion is the starter is not making contact with the flywheel. When I try to kick start the car, I hear a buzzing/grinding sound.

Anybody have any ideas?

I'm thinking something is wrong with the flywheel maybe its broken or bent.

The starter solenoid on the starter is not engaging. In which case, you'll need a new/reman starter.

Or there's teeth missing on the flywheel. try hand cranking the engine (clockwise) abit in attempt to turn the flywheel to a point that does have teeth. If still the engine doesn't turn over, see my first paragraph.

I will try this when I get back to my car. If this is the case. What is the buzzing grinding sound I am hearing when I try to kick start the car? I believe this is the same noise I heard when the car shut off.

Ya dude, I just seized my engine. The starter still wil lturn it over strong, it just isnt gonna budge though.

My motor isn't seized.. I turned it from the cam gears just now. (which I realized was a bad idea when the torque on the bolt broke)

I'm gonna pull the starter tommorow morning.

The motor turns fine from the crank. I took the starter to AutoZone and they checked it, it works fine. The flywheel isn't missing any teeth.

I'm having a serious time diagnosing this car :beatentodeath:

So I put the starter back in, The car cranks over and the accessory belts turn. The timing gears however dont turn. So that means on of the timing components is broken. Hopefully no valves bent.

Turning the car over with a broken timing belt(cam gears stationary) will be very likely bend valves since it's an interference motor. The oil pump and rear balance shaft are both driven off the timing belt as well and could have easily seized from oil deprivation.

It seems like something seized and the timing belt broke trying to keep it turning. If the timing belt is in fact broke, and the bolt broke loose before the cam turned, I'm willing to bet it's the cam(s).

The bolt broke after the cam gear turned about a half of rotation though. So the cams are not seized.

Maybe not seized... but cam gear bolts are torqued to ~90 ftlbs and locktighted on IIRC. I'm a little curious why you're turning the engine counter-clockwise in the first place though :p

EDIT: torque spec could very well be wrong, first thing I found

Man if it is not seazed it's damm TIGHT!! Those cam bolts are tourqed to between 58-72FT/LBs

With what you have it's time to grab the wrenches and start at eather the top or bottom that puppy is going to have to come apart.

My bet the engine is a total loss, not:beatentodeath:

I hope im wrong (but I don't think so)

I'm gonna cut the b.s. and just do a compression check this morning. When I got the car it read 168 across all cylinders, So I'm hoping the results are not far off.
