My friend has a 97 GSX with a considerable amount of work done to the car like a first gen motor swap, big 16g turbo, big Greddy FMIC, etc.. but he wants more and is willing to spend the money to do it right but he doesn't want to send it to a bunch of different shops to get this accomplished. He wants a shop that can do everything he needs inhouse. I'm talking machine shop that knows what they are doing and a shop that has a dyno and someone that knows how to tune properly. This shop must also be able to stand by their work if anything goes wrong. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appretiated.

Since you're in Chicago go to AMS, go to their website www.automotosports.com to find out more. They have some really fast cars in their stable and from what I understand are a good shop.

AMS is not an option because they are the ones who did the 1g motor swap and he doesn't want to take it back there. They are also not all in-house and they will haveto send his parts out to other shops. Another reason is that we all know the guys from AMS and we don't want word to get around what has been done to this car even if it is just by accident. My friend has been considering giving Dave Buschur a call.

Any of the big name shops can do it all. Just drop off the car and a blank check.

I would also add Pruven Performance to that list Kevin.

Any been to that Polk place in little rock, there add in modified looks like there a pretty hardcore dsm shop, but i havent heard anything about them.:dsm:

I really need to get a response from someone who has had work similar to what my friend wants done to their car. I need to know if the shop has all of the capabilities that I had listed in the beginning of the thread.
With the money my friend is about to drop we can't go on" I think they can do that". I really don't mean to be an a$$ hole but I think most of you can understand where I'm comming from.

E-mail Tim Herber ([email protected]). Tell him who you are/your friend is and explain the situation. He owns Beyond Redline in Green Bay, Wi (not too far from where you are now). Tell him Greg, the guy with the Black Talon with purple headlights, refered you to him.

I dont know if any dsm shop can do "everything" in house. Most everybody sends their motor work out to a machine shop for machining. They may assemble in house... but I dont know of too many if any dsm shops with a full fledged machine shop facility on premises.

That is how we got started... we are basically an automotive machine shop... We built many types of motors ( Myself and Jeff Howell... Howell Auto Performance ) in Indiana Pa... That is where I spend my days...

We are expanding daily, and in the process of building a larger shop so we can take on more work and a full install facility.

We try to do what we know best, and stick to that. There are many good shops out there however, that can take care of your needs.

Regards,

Mike Huml

Now how could we respond if we don't know what your friend wants done? Maybe a list of his "desired" mods would help. And just what exactly do you want to keep away from AMS? They did the work the first time, they can do more. Or did they #### something up and you are afraid to bring something up?

Or are you trying to build up a serious car for some street racing action and don't want word getting around that you are infact building it up? A little more info on YOUR part would help us out a LOT.

The car is being built for street racing and when there is alot of money involved you really don't want anyone to know what your cars capabilities are. The less people in our area are kept away from this car the better. AMS did not do anything wrong, it's just most Chicago DSMers know each other. I'm sure if anyone from AMS read this thread they would know right away who my friend is. This is a liability we cannot afford. I also can't reveal the mods that are being considered on this car. I know it sounds really cheesy but there really is alot at stake here. If any shop owners are reading this and think or know they can undertake this type of work, please let me know.

you mentioned 16g, big greddy and then you are sayin that your friend's car is gonna be a secret. I dunno how chicago area is but if you come to cali with a 16g...im sorry but you'll get whooped on. If AMS did some work already to your car and you were happy with it then go back there. I dont understand why some people act like TFATF and have "secret" mods....you race and you either win or you lose.:dsm:

Look, my friend isn't keeping the 16g in there. We know that that turbo is a piece of $hit. We don't plan on having anything smaller that an AR 0f .60 on the compressor side. As for the "2k buy in" I have seen races for more than $10,000 buy in. It's not funny when you beat someone for that kind of cash and they don't want to pay so you get a gun pulled in your face. This isn't a joke so don't reply unless you have something worthwhile to say. Oh, also it's not always a heads-up race, many people try to cheat and get every advantage they can. Some times you have to give people car lengths just to get them to race. This isn't the track boys where every one plays fair!

thats the best advice i have heard all night.

10K buy in

$75k chassis, 2 $65k motors, $400k motorhome and trailer, now that's an expensive buy-in. For the record I hate everyone who streetraces and thereby thinks they are some sort of "cool dude" who must be respected.

I race at the track because i have a brain, and balls, because that's where the fast cars go anyways. As a plus I get paid to go around and instigate street races and then get people in trouble, ain't life grand.

That's nothing more than a T04E comp. housing. So you gonna stick a 46 trim wheel in a T04E housing, with a .48 A/R, stg. 2 hot side and have a high 11 sec. turbo at best? Please don't just throw #'s out there if they have no real meaning. If you don't want anyone to know your setup, don't mention any specifics. Just take your car to one of the major vendors out of state, and be done with it. You already blew your cover by stating WHAT purpose the car is for, and who did the original work. Should have just kept quiet and simply did your own research on out of state shops.

ok:rolleyes:

Actually, I haven't really given up any information because a TO4E isn't the only turbo with that AR. The original shop only installed a stock 1g engine so I don't know what cover it is thats blown. To your advice about sending it out of state, that is the whole intention. We already know what all of the instate shops are capable of and none of them suit our needs.
