I just got a tubular manifold, ported o2 housing, ported big 16g. I plan on putting them all on this weekend. With my fuel mods (550's, vr4 fuel pump) what is a safe boost psi, and a good base fuel pressure to start from? Keep in mind the highest octane fuel we have here is 91...so I'd like to be on the safe side.

I'm just looking to get a good idea where to start tuning from, and what is safe. All I have is a datalogger and fpr, DSMlink is my next purchase.

What type of fuel controller will you be using to control those 550's? You will want some type of fuel controller installed before installing those 550 injectors.

If your upgraded injectors are already installed, then you will want to install your fuel controller (such as DSMLink) as soon as possible in order to compensate for your non-factory injectors.

With regard to your base fuel pressure, you will want to set it to 38 psi since you are a 1G. (Note: This value does NOT depend on your turbo or your boost pressure.)

14psi or so boost pressure would be a reasonable/conservative starting-point to begin with.

Ok, thats what I was looking for. 38psi fuel pressure....14psi boost on 16g....base starting point. Thank you.

And yeah, DSMlink is coming soon, because Christmas will be here soon :)

The sooner you install DSMLink, the better, because your engine will be running very rich on 550's without any type of injector compensation.

It already is rich, but according to my logger, no knock so thats good.
But I've heard DSMlink is great for 2g's, but practically worthless for 1g's...I've heard this from a few people, whats the story with that?

So your running your 550's with absolutely no way to control them? Thats not good...

And as stated base Fuel Pressure for a 1G is always 38 regardless of mods.

I can't speak on DSMLink for 1g's specifically, but some of the features I like for DSMLink for 2g's include:

1. Provides both datalogging AND tuning capabilities.
2. Allows 2g's to detect the presence of knock directly, making it easier to tune for knock.
3. Allows you to dial-in larger injectors (1000cc's) and have them idle like stock - pretty difficult to do with any type of piggyback controller.
4. If you upgrade your injectors in the future, re-adjusting DSMLink is pretty straightforward.

I believe that most of these benefits carry over to 1g's as well. (Feature 2 is already provided by many dataloggers for 1g's.)

If money's tight and you're still looking for a good "tune" for now, I'd recommend visiting www.dsmchips.com and getting a Keydiver Stage 3 chip for $150. He'll make all the settings for everything you're running and you'll be able to push 22 PSI if you wish. I was pushing 22-24 on my E316G with 680's, AFPR, and Keydiver and it ran awesome.
