alright, i have been searching around for engine prices for my 97 eclipse gst after discovering i have crankwalk. there are still a few things i am unsure about....

1. Will a 1g shortblock bolt up to a 2g head? (I know that the 1g head is an upgrade, but I am on a budget.)

2. How much on average do the extra parts needed to put a 1g in a 2g cost?

3. What kind of issues might i run into when putting a 1g in a 2g, such as compatibility, minus the angle sensor problem, and reliability?

4. What is the average labor cost I should expect for this kind of work?

I have shopped around, and have found longblocks ranging from $1200 up to $2700...i found a new shortblock right at $980. as far as labor goes, i have only managed to source 3 places that will put in an engine i bring them...the prices are 300-800( he said probably right around 500), 550, and 1600. please give me any help you can, i am tired of crankwalk, and want it gone forever.

the link to subscribe to the mailing list is on RREs page, the link i gave you..

my 6 bolt is working out fine so far.. I have some minor issues with DSMlink and my 6 bolt.. they dont seem to agree on everything.

Larryd....Did you do the work yourself? If not, where and who? You also had to change the tranny too, right? 2nd gen tranny doesn't fit the 6 bolt block does it?
Thanks.

I did the full 6 bolt swap for 1500 including all parts, tools, gasket kit, bshaft removal, engine hoist, etc. YOu can get a good running block with mileage for 500 bucks. Modify the drivers side motor mount, the 2g tranny bolts up. You just dont use one of the bellhousing bolts. a 1g CAS is 40-50 bucks used and takes 15 minute to wire in. You'll most likely have to do the baro wire mod for 99 cents as described on magnus motorsports. Unfortunately thats a shitty solution and you will need a AFC and datalogger to get things back in line. Expect fuel settings to be off by about 30-35%. But that can be a good thing, since larger injectors drop you near the lower end of the AFCs adjustment range, and the baro wire mod will buy some back. Just be careful you dnt get ungodly amounts of timing and blow the new block up. The 1g block uses 12mm studs instead of the 2g 11mm studs, some poeple say it still fits fine, others bore the holes in the 2g head out 1 more mm. Use the 2g sensors, accecories, belts, and brackets. And I cant see how anything to do with changing only to the 6 bolt block (with 2g head) would have anything to do with anything about DSMlink.
