fuel cell idea

So my gas tank is totally pooched on my car (rusting right through, the only rusty part on the car) and I have decided to go with a fuel cell. I figure a 16 gallon or near is a decent size for a weekend warrior. After searching through the limited threads on cells I haven't come across any set-ups that I like. Most people seem to cut out the hatch floor and go that route but it looks like a waste of time to me. This is how I want my setup to be:
a 16 gallon cell bolted to the floor in my hatch with a ss -8an line coming off the tank and going through a hole in the floor where a aeromotive inline pump would be mounted underneath my car. The ss line would then make it to the fuel rail and back via another ss -8an return line. This idea sounds really simple so there has to somthing wrong with it. A firewall will need to be made and I was wondering if it has to cover the tank completely, or just the front of the tank and some of the top. what do you guys think? yay or neh

A 16g cell in the trunk or passenger side seat area? I'm trying to picture it.

The hump in the back will not allow for a tank that big (hence the cutting of the floor).


My question: Will -8an lines be too big for a DD? I don't know what repercussions there are to having too big of lines. I know that -6an lines are good to about 5-600hp and commonly used but why not just go big while you're at it?

I was actually considering the same plan. I might cut out my hatch floor.
I was looking at ATL fuel cells (the best I think), and they have a spring loaded flap valve that helps prevent fuel from spilling out if you roll your car. As for as a firewall, I am not really sure about that. I did consider recessing the cell through a hole in the hatch floor, then taking aluminum sheet and putting it over the cell with a flush-mount aluminum fill cap.
I have no first-hand experience with a fuel cell like Greg Collier might have.

Also, are you going to use the sponge/mesh at the bottom or not? And why?

It is going to be in the hatch area, i've seen a couple styles of cell's that would easily fit in the back. As for the sponge/mesh I was under the influence that all good quality cells have them. Those ATL's are sweet ass, but there damn expensive. Check these out.

How bout just removing the old gas tank and putting in the new cell with brackets in the stock location? (sounds easier then cutting the floor and rewelding)

I'd like to see other peoples setups as well.

Don't get an Aeromotive pump, there are much better options available.
