I'm looking to buy a 93 tsi awd. The problem is I was wanting to buy one with a 6 bolt but this car is extremely clean. Is crank walk as much of a problem in the 1st gens as it is in the 2nd gens? Also if I were to buy it later on could I drop in a 6 bolt relatively easy. What I mean by easy is easier than it would be to put a 6 bolt in a 2nd gen. The car only has 47k miles on it so an engine swap won't be for a while but eventually I wanted to build a 6 bolt to drop in what car I end up buying.

6bolt > (1G)7Bolt > (2G)7Bolt > Everything else

I've heard few complaints from 1G 7-bolt owners about crank walk, however the rods are obviously not as strong as the 6-bolt rods. A 6-bolt short block swap into a late 1G wouldn't be difficult, the main difference would be the flywheel. Certainly much easier than a 6-bolt swap into a 2G.

IMHO: a 1G AWD w/ only 47K; buy it!

Good luck,

The 1g 7 bolts aren't overly crankwalk prone. They can get it, but then all cars can. You shouldn't worry about it too much. It shouldn't be too difficult to swap a 6 bolt in later if you really want it. And hey, if you get this car you get the lovely 4 bolt rear. If this car is in good shape go for it.

Buy it!!! That motor should be fine. Remember, the rest of the car also has ONLY 47k on it. So even if you do have to put a 6bolt in, you still got a car with great body/driveline/interior.

Just measure the thrust play with a dial indicator (put the magnetic stand on the frame) and measure the play. If it's in spec don't worry about it.

You do have to make sure that you get 6 bolt parts, not just the bare block. The front case, oil filter housing, and timing belt cover are different.

dont buy it, its a horrible car, maybe you should just buy it for me...so that way you wont have to worry about crank walk......but seriously get the car dude sounds nice
