Ok all, i need help on a wastegate?

i dont know much about which one i should get and how much is a good price? so help me out. what are some good INexpensive external wastegates that are good for like the 20g, and green turbo. Where can i get the cheapest deal too.

Internal wastegates--> are these good enough if you can get a 20g or green to come with them? can you still get the 20+ psi with an internal, or are they limited to the 15-17psi.

thx

Yes Tial external wastegates are very good 40mm for 20G and 46mm for Green. External wastegates will give you solid boost compared to internally gated turbos which often have problems with boost creep. Dont go all out on a turbo with a cheap wastegate it's like having tires from walmart on 19" wheels.

Good luck.

haha, i got my tires at home depot. :D so where can i get the best deal on a wastegate? any links? cost info?

Send your turbo down to Extreme Turbo and they will install an inlargered internal wastegate that works any were from as low as 9 psi to what ever limit you want on the high end. with in reason:)

A wastegate,is a wastegate. the type does not matter, the size of the gate is the difference between creep and no creep. a 39-40mm gate will work fine.

All I can tell you is make up your own mind on this subject since it seems that there are many different opinions on the subject and no one has any numbers to back up what they are saying. These are just some opinions from companies that know a thing or two about cars!
Quote from HKS :
External wastegates are used when reliability is needed in high performance applications because they offer a greater exhaust flow capacity and increased ability to regulate and maintain proper levels of high boost pressure.
Quote from forced performance :
Large turbocharges, such as our Green and Red models, utilize an external wastegate to provide rock solid boost control.
Quote from bushurracing :
By installing an external wastegate, excessive boost will be dumped to the atmosphere (or back into the exhaust system if you have your car plumbed that way)
This modification will eliminate boost creep with any size exhaust even with the largest turbo we sell.
An external wastegate provides faster spoolup, and better performance in the upper RPM range.
HKS makes the highest performance wastegate on the market, and Buschur Racing orginates and manufactures the proper mount

LOL what do numbers have to do with boost creep:rolleyes:, how is my experience with an internal gate an opinion LOL but thanks for the buschur racing and FP advertisement. lord knows their is not enough of that on the Internet already. anyone can copy and paste info from a web site. myself and may others here have internal gates on our larger than 20G sized turbos and have had zero creep at boost levels as low as 10-12 psi

Jeff Elliot dynoed at 633whp on an internal gate with zero creep is that an opinion also???

hahaha you say what do numbers have to do with it and just after to prove your point you write "Jeff Elliot dynoed at 633whp on an internal gate with zero creep" guess we dont have the same concept of numbers!
and did he try the same setup with an external wastegate to compare?
There are fast cars with internal and external wastegates Read carfully the quotes they take about reliability, spool-up time and performance, not just boost creep. Different setups might work best with external wastegates but I never heard anyone say that internal wastegates were better, just less expensive.

as I said before "there are many different opinions on the subject" everyone has the right to their own opinion.

yes but I think that different setups might be better with external ... we are not all expert tuners or we would never hear about boost creep. At 633WHP that car is tuned ... most people wont spend much on tuning compared to bolt-on parts so most people would have problems with boost creep. Am I wrong ? Is it better to spend $$$ on tuning/porting/tweaking just to eliminate boost creep or get an external wastegate and never hear of boost creep? guess we'll never know... I'm the type of guy that likes to eliminate potential problems before they start not once they occure but that's just me... If you do all the tuning yourself then go internal to save money .. else you might not save any money on the long term.

jdmawd ... do you know how much cfm's your turbo puts out ? It's probably between 600-700cfm's but if you know I would apreciate it if you could tell me because I'm completing a full turbo chart comparisson and I dont have the numbers for you turbo except for the power output of 440whp.

Thanks....

Nexius.

I have no idea what you are talking about, I paid 1400 for my turbo with a 39MM gate and I get zero creep. What is all this porting and tuning to eliminate creep that you are refering to?

its in the neighborhood of 750 i can get the exact numbers for you, the E housing flows 40 cfm more than the A housing

dsm-performance rates it at enough flow for 460hp but those are just flow numbers

Those quoted from fp and buschur are from back in the day where all internal gates were only 32mm or the "upgraded" 34mm, NOw with 39-40mm internal gate you have no need for an external gate anymore on a street car.

Later,

thanks ! one step closer to completing my chart ! then it flows as much as a lvl 4 frank which is able to put out 570 WHP...

The lvl4 frank is pertty big LEVEL 4 FRANK
MITSUBISHI TD05H 7CM TURBINE HOUSING WITH TD06 TURBINE WHEEL WITH 10-DEGREE CLIP, MITSUBISHI TD06 20G STYLE COMPRESSOR HOUSING WITH 3” INLET,
WITH 750CFM GARRETT COMPRESSOR WHEEL. SUPPORTS 570HP

I thought it would be more between 600-700cfm
Well guess I was wrong .. Thanks for the info.
