Ok, so today i was drving around and decided to take my car into a car wash. While i was in the car wash and the car was at idle i heard a loud POP or SNAP and then heard a slapping noise. Obviously i couldnt get OUT and look to see what happened. So i started pulling out and the slapping got louder and louder. Once i was out i stopped the car which was knocking pretty loudly and looked under the hood, where i saw that my alt belt was off, i thought, OH so the alt belt came off and that was slapping. I went to my trunk to get out my tools and then got under the front end to start putting the belt on. As i was pulling on the belt i heard a clang of metal to metal, i looked over and the outer edge of the crank pulley had BROKEN OFF!!!! It broke in a perfect circle around the edge. I put this engine in the car about 2 months ago, Before i put it in i had taken the front case off, i inspected all the pulleys and sanded down all the belt groved ones and checked them for damage. There was none at that time, two days ago i checked my belts and everything seemed fine then. SO WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED!!!!!! I have no idea HOW this could have happened the good news is i have an extra crank pulley laying around i can put on there. BUT STILL i NEED to know how and why this happened. I truly dont understand.

1G stock Crank pulleys are known to break apart with age. It's two peace glued together.

You were luck it didn't fly out and go through your radiator or worse.

That's why i have an billet under drive pulley crank pulley sitting in the garage and readu to go on my car.

which won't be till spring because my car is in storage for the winter.

it's not uncommon at all for the crank pulley to separate. after all, it's simply two pieces of cast iron attatched to one another by some rubber.....

The rubber and glue get old and pow the end of the pulley, had that happen to my 90 GSX, had to get it flatbedded home.

The hell with the pulley going through the radiator, your lucky it didn't go backward and bust your timing belt, Ive seen that happen before too.OMG

ok new problem, i replaced the pulley, re timed the engine, and reattached and tighten all the belts(cept the AC belt cause ill wait till summer to put it back on) So, i start the car and the idle SUCKS, its choppy and not nice, then if i DRIVE the car its FAST AS HELL, but if i let off the gas and put the car in neutral the RPMS DROP and it dies. THen its hard as hell to start again..........any ideas?
