What exhaust should I go to?

I've a 1991 GSX and a stock exhaust. I know that I should upgrade the exhaust before trying to get much more power from the car, but I'm not sure which to upgrade to - manufacturer, diameter, etc... and if anyone could give me some help on which they use or any sites that have a good explanation of the exhaust dynamics and reasons to upgrade, I would be grateful. Thanks.

I sugest going to a 3 inch Thermal R & D if you want the sound of a damn bus I got mine from AHP very good work for a good price !

every body has there on preference but we all seem to agree three inch is the way to go.
i got the greddy it is nice but way over priced.
plus it looks like it belongs on a badd A$$ 979whp Supra, if you as me.

For a 1g car the Thermal R&D is the nicest. The "Thermal" that AHP sells is AHP piping with some sort of Thermal brand muffler.

The Thermal R&D has a great low sound, but the sound will vary with the rest of your exhaust, depending on if you run a downpipe wit hit, a high-flow cat, test pipe, or in my case a glasspack-cat replacement. In my opinion it is also not very loud as is has a fairly large muffler and a relatively small (4") tip.

Go with your budget...if saving money is your plan (best idea) go with the AHP exhausts. They do look and sound nice. My buddy got the 3" catback with the Aerospeed muffler 4"tip on his 90 AWD from AHP. It cost him $335 shipped. The exhaust reminds me of the HKS Hyper style, the muffler angles towards the right. I have a 3" stainless Thermal catback ($535 shipped from DSS when they used to offer free shipping on products over $250).
