hks ssqv idle problem?

i just bought a HKS SSQV BOV today. ahvent installed it yet, but im planning on doing it tomarrow. few questions before i do it.
the guy at the store where i bought it was a pretty big dumba$$. said i had to weld the flange onto my IC pipe, yet i have a BONE STOCK GST. as i have read on this board, (1)no welding at all will have to be done if i wanna install it on my stock pipe, right? another question. my home dog has the same BOV on the same car, cept a 98. and he says he has an idling problem sometimes. ive read some posts back to him on this board and they say it may be a defective BOV. (2) anyone else have this idling problem with their SSQV BOV?. and (3) how big of a pain in the a$$ is the C clip and did you use any other tools besides the C clamp pliers?

hmm.. ok.. i have an hks ssqv on my car.. so lets see..

i think it would be better to have the flange welded on an AFTERMARKET ic pipe.. more convenient and not on that flimsy plastic-like in-efficient stock pipe.. so the guy at the store might not be as big of a dumbass as you think.. heh

but yea.. you don't have to weld it if you got the hks ssqv kit for 2g turbo dsms.. and it comes with the flange which attaches to the stock uip.. but if you just got the universal bov.. then yes you need to weld a flange to a uip.. which you will most likely do in the future when you replace the stock ic pipes ;)

as for your "home-dawg".. is he venting to the atmopshere? becaue if he is.. some cars act differently than others.. and a result of a vented bov can result in idle problems.. however.. i have mine vented and at idle it's fine.. so i don't know about that.. maybe it is defective.. or check to make sure everything is installed properly.

as for install.. DONT TRY TO INSTALL YOUR BOV WITHOUT SNAP RING (C-CLIP) PLIERS. hehe. ive tried.. ull get frustrated.. and thers no way without it.. besides that.. thats the most important tool wen installing this bov.. good luck..

My GS-T had a phucked up idle because I vented through a Blitz BOV. I raised the idle a few hundred RPM and that seemed to help a little... but not much. Okay, it didn't help at all, just made it idle higher. If you want the loud venting sound, it will run rich and idle weird, and possibly damage your cat from all the richness.

anyways i have mine vented and unless and its always idled fine, absolutely no problems.

unless you bought the 2g turbo kit (which sucks since it retains that terrible plastic uicp) you'll need to have custom pipes made with the bov flange welded on. the flange usually runs around $20 extra just for the flange. here's a pic of my uicp (1g with nt tb) on my currently torn down car.

i put my hks ssq on my stock uip with no problem at all, i just went to my local engine shop to borrow the tool for the c-clip, screwed and pulled off the old one and put on the hks without any problem whatsoever, no problem idleing, running to the atmosphere or anything, it was if it was meant to use that bov, i friggin love, great sound, easy install and no problems holding boost
 
alright, im a little confused on if i got the universal one or the kit for a 95-98 eclipse. my HOME DOG (98SilverGS-T) says i got the kit, but ive only told him what is in it. here are some pics, can someone identify waht i got. this is all that came in the box
and if i dont ahve the kit, i will need that other IC pipe to weld on the flange, right?

AND THIS IS THE FLANGE. if this is the part that comes with the KIT, no welding needed, right? if it is the universal one, then i would have to get a new pipe and weld it on their, right?

that's the universal kit

thus the round flange with nothing attached to it, time to bust out the welder.
 
Hey, so if you get the universal "kit" ($190-$200), it comes with a weld-on flange, right?

I thought you had to pay $35 extra for those flanges.

maybe some places but i know i paid extra for the flange from buschur.
 
yes thats the universal.. the "kit" designed for dsms comes with a flange that will mount to stock uip.. i helped a fellow dsmtuners member install it and it didn't seem too secure.. it actually popped off while he was driving.. LOL.. your going to have to get an aftermarket uip and weld that flange that came with your Universal Kit.. cause your not welding that on your stock plastic uip LOL..
