Okay, I have looked around for this question and have not found an answer. I was wondering if anyone has tried coating the inside of your header with that 2000* VHT flame proof paint? Thanks.

I was thinking that it would flake just because of the extreme heat. I have coated the outside of a tubular Honda header with the stuff and did the whole baking it in the oven process with good results. I know turbo DSM exhausts are a lot hotter though but, I was just wondering if anyone had any luck with it on a DSM header?

Inside of the header no. Outside yes. I sprayed my exhaust mani and o2 housing with VHT Silver and "cured" it in the oven. Smells.

Anyway, the paint seems to be holding fine, I haven't driven my car that much though. I wouldn't hesitate to spray the outside, inside not so much.

I believe there was a thread where people had good results with VHT.

Read that thread.

Thanks for the link. It had some great information. I have a tubular header and was trying to find a way to keep the heat down. I know a lot of motorcycle guys do it on the inside of there headers to help keep the heat down as well as keeping them from not bluing as bad but, I guess it is just to hot inside a DSM header. Any recommendations on what I should do other than wrap? Can you Jet coat the inside?

Coating will help some but as it is still pretty thin heat will still be building up. I'm sure it's possible to coat the inside of the header though.

Header wrap will have the biggest effect of reducing heat but some say that it will make the header deteriorate much faster.

Have you considered a vented hood to extract heat? That can help quite a bit

Yes actually. I have seen some good ones and some real gnarly looking ones. Maybe I will do some research on that. I have seen some decent ones that people cut the stock hood. Do you know of any good places to start? Thanks again elfroggo.

I would not recommend spraying the VHT inside the manifold. Even though I doubt the paint flakes would damage the turbine-it would not last in such a harsh environment.

www.sheaerfab.com has a "insulcoat" coating specifically made for the inside of their manifolds. It is similar to what some in the V8 world coat the tops of their pistons and combustion chambers with. That would probably be your best bet.
