Is the manifold im talking about

It came with a EGT on the #1 Runner. I was on the way home and the EGT Plug decided to back itself out and cause a exhaust leak.

Now i go to put it back in , and it dosn't seem to bottom out. I dont want to go to far and drop it into the manifold and cause myself 3 hours worth of work getting it out

But at the same time i wont snug up , so its just going to back out again

Does anyone know if they do or do not bottom out. NO and i repeat NO GUESSING

Thank you all in advance,

Andy

Look in the hole, do you see another smaller width to the hole further down? Usually you have to drill completely into it to install the EGT probe, so I can't imagine it snugging up. If there isn't a step, it won't snug. Just to be shure, you could try running a long bolt into the hole.

Yah it dosn't look like it changes , i looked , but its also 10pm at night and my light in my garage broke.

I thought about the screw thing , its probably what i will do tomorrow. Any Suggestions on how to prevent it from backing out then? or worse feeding itself into the manifold and down into the turbo:notgood:

Thread Lock , Locktite . Any of that stuff.... The way to release it ... Is Heat OMG

So I dont think it would work in a 1000+ degree's Environment

Im just going to get a Screw with a nut , use awasher and a lock washer and see if that works

All is solved , Bought a lock washer with a bolt , screwed the Succer down , She's never backing out again :thumb:

After a few heat cycles the lock washer will loose all tension and just be a flat washer with a slot in it. then the bolt could possibly back off. The hole is supposed to be an NPT thread. 1/8" NPT iirc. Npt is National Pipe Thread and it tapers down to create an awesome seal. The thread was tapped to far with the NPT tap it will be to big torwards the top and not let it tighten torwards the bottom. The best thing to do would be to baby it with the "fix" you have now and contact the company that sold it to you. Pitch a fit and get a new manifold on its way to you.

You could also try to run a larger npt plug in there which would require you to drill the manifold out and tap it for the larger plug. I would contact the company first. :thumb:

Yeah.... I guess i kinda forgot temps get up to 1200 degree's down there. But your right , Its loose up top as i tightned it down it got tight ( without the lock washer ) So all should be fine.

Could put a spot of weld to prevent it from loosening.

Could also fill the threads and re-cut it with a proper taper.

(Disconnect the battery before welding on the vehicle)

Seems like a lot to go through when you could just call the company you bought it from and tell they you received a faulty product.

Thats relative I suppose.

To me, putting the car in the garage and tacking it on is less work than pushing out a hefty turd after a thanksgiving feast. And the repair I mentioned above would probably take only 20 minutes.

Of course, getting what you paid for is largely important as well, and I would be very bothered by receiving a non-quality part.

Also welding cast isn't as easy as just welding mild steel.
