I just bought a used EGT gauge from a local DSM'r, and have a couple questions. I know how to install the probe and wire the simple red and yellow wires up to the gauge. My question is on this gauge, the wires coming out of the back of the gauge for the gauges power are missing. Also the light socket seems to be messed with. I know i can get the light part to work, i've done that before(if i need to i'll sand it down and install a custom light), but what do I do about the gauge power wires??? Heres a pic.

Take a look at the photo I made. I would take the 12vdc from the light switch, that way when you turn on your headlights, the guage lights up as well. Keep the ground as a short as posible, and do not ground it with the probe ground.

wow great post man! Nice info and picture. Bring it to the meet on the 7th too and we can help you out.

Unless I can get off work and get andy to give me a ride down there, i won't be coming. The gauge will already be in the car by that time anyway, haha. My question is I thought on autometer gauges, the gauge had a red and black power wire(s) coming from the bottom of the gauge, where that hole is?

Is it a mechanical or electronic gauge? If its mechanical there won't be any wires coming from the gauge, normally the only 2 wires would be the ones for the light which on my gauges are attached to the bulb socket itself & the bulb socket screws into the back case so there are no wires that are actually attached to the gauge.

Define a mechanical temperature gauge...?

The hole is most likely for a light though, and the black and red wires would be for the backlighting for the gauge.

yeah, so you have the red and yellow thermocouple wires. Then you have the black ground wire, and the other two wires (on top) are for the gauge backlighting. Wire those to your instrument dimmer wires, which are probably talked about in the VFAQ.

Ok, well, I don't understand how you guys can't get my question. I know everything about my light, the single black wire is one of the light wires, the other one will be soldered onto the end of the bulb. The probe wires are simple, duh, red goes on one post, yellow on the other. My question is, in the instructions it gives 2 more wires for GAUGE POWER, what are those for and why do I not have them.
