Check out the new S-AFCII coming out

Looks really similar to the Rev/Speed meter except the the joystick. Hmmm, a "Knock" meter...interesting. Too bad it probably wouldn't work for 2G's.

 why not?

Same reason why the 2G Pocketlogger doesn't read knock. There's no output for it from the stock ECU because of the OBDII standard. But I imagine it would work great with the 1G's.

anyone figure out why the old one is alot more $$ than the newer. bette one??

Well, for one thing, it hasn't officially hit stateside yet...so the list price here in the US hasn't been established yet. I'd imagine it's gonna be pretty close to the original SAFC's price once shipping, tariffs, whatever that needs to be tacked on once it arrives here.

Either way, you'll probably be able to pickup an AFC cheap. Once this bad boy comes out, you know all the vendors are going to try to get rid of their old AFC's which means really really cheap prices. I don't really care for those new features too much, and I'm sure a regular AFC will do just fine for now.

damn 12 points of change that you can do. i wonder when it will come to around here.

Where did you see that? I looked on the site and didnt see how many points of change were available.

I am glad I didnt buy the S-AFC yesterday. I was all ready to get one, but I was so busy at work.

If the new one has more points of change I may just get the new and improved.

The site says $311 to reserve it, but I guess they wont ship to the US right.

Actually the correct reason is the OBD2 protocol does not transfer the knock value, but there is a wire for it (incoming from the knock sensor). It would be up to apex to incorporate the correct filter for the knock sensor, which if they use a "universal" code could lead to very unreliable results. The TMO and DMSLINK loggers use a proprietary protocol to export what values they want, and at a much higher speed than the OBD protocol. You can be assured the knock readings with them are accurate.
It would be nice if that knob was able to be set for a kind of "total gain" where you could make adjustments to the whole curve on the fly.

They look pretty sweet, but I'm not waiting till mid 03 to pick one up, I've already ordered my S-AFC, they still do the job well and look cool.

I talked with a guy I know at Apex a few months back about this unit. He told me it likely won't be out til mid 03 here in the states. Maybe they'll bump it up though.

Did he say anything else about it. What new features does it have?

It looks as though you can order one directly from the link Hobbes provided (well yeah, reserve it for sale after Christmas). They talk about exchange rate and US$ and all that.

Your right. Anybody care to guess how many grams the package weighs. Looks like it will cost about $15 to $20. Not too bad.

Why would any 2G tuner get one of these when the DSMLink kicks it's ass from here to the moon. (That's a technical term :D)

b/c the price adds up.

$600 dsm link
$280 socketed eprom
$400 laptop that I dont have

$1280

or

$290 S-afc
$275 pocketlogger & palm

$565

I know Dsmlink is much better. And I had trouble with the decision actually.
