If I end up swapping over to a MAFT setup what would be the best way to go? I have a 2G mas on there right now. When I put it on, I cut the factory 1G plug off and soldered a 2G plug on there.

I am just going to be useing the original MAFT and I know that they are made for the different generations. Which generation do I need to buy it for or will the 2G MAFT even work on 1Gs? I was thinking that if I can but a MAFT for a 2G and it would plug right up that would save me the hassle of having to solder once again.

I am nowhere close to overflowing the 2G mas as of right now but I am about to order a front mount. I might as well go ahead and mod the upper intercooler pipe before I put the kit on there if I am going to go this route since there will be a bigger turbo on the car this time next year.

Thanks for the help guys.

Ya must be using an AFC to compensate for the 2G MAF,a 2G MAF flows about 26% more air than a 1G MAF so ya use the AFC to compensate for it,with a 2G MAF-T then you would have to add 26% more fuel right off the bat because your running a 1G ECU.....so best bet would be to get a 1G MAF-T to keep things simple.......look up on that new generation 2 MAF-t thats out now seems to be awesome considering its only $69 more http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=225618

Also what people do is run a set of 550cc injectors with the 2G MAS, and it evens out the A/F ratio to a 1G setting, but I would just use an AFC or some other type of tuning device to be 100% sure of your tune, and A/F ratio.

I'm on the boat with the maft gen2 thing. Especially since it's a built in afc.

Think of it this way.

2g mas cost.
550cc's cost.
safc.

Or how some people run,
Gmmas
maft
injectors
safc.

Now all you need is a gmmas, and the gen2. Choose injectors of your liking, and have fun. Cuts WAY down on cost, and cuts out a lot of the tweaking to get the maft to run all happy with the safc.

The only downfall to the maft set-up is the "bug" i've been hearing about them having with idle or something. I havn't found anything solid on it, but some people have big issues with it. Oh well, i'm sure it's much better with the gen2.

I am using a 2G MAS, 550's and a SAFC II right now. I will probably go with the 1G translator and just break out the soldering iron once more. I just have to figure out which wires from the 2G MAS plug go with the wires for the translator.

what about the cost of the UICP ?

Well, in my case i've already got an aftermarket UICP. But yes, cost would rise if you bought a specified pipe for the application.

I on the other hand will just be hacking into the dejon uicp i have now to fit the gmmaf in. Which will take a while anyway because i don't have money for the maftgen2 right now.

But realistically, for cost to cost benefits getting the gen2 with gmmaf is the best deal. Especially if you can make an existing uicp work (that isn't stock obviously).

another way to go is to get a EProm ECU, then you can go DSMlink or DSMchip.

and then just get some bigger injectors.

I think this is a better way to go because DSMlink is such a great product.

Im personaly using a Keydiver chip right now that has a custom timming map.

that is good with pump gas to 24 psi. It is very simple and easy to tune.

The only difference between a 1g maft and a 2g maft is the harness plug. Since you soldered the 2g plug into your harness, it would be easier for you to get a 2g maft.

All I did was take my UICP off and sawzall'ed the BOV+flange off and some extra material then bought an extra coupler and bought something like this. It works great, although it isn't the prettiest thing.

I ended up selling my crushed 1g BOV + that little section of IC pipe it was on + flange to a guy over on SRT forums.

That's exactly the answer that I wanted. I figured that the MAFT for the two generations were identical with the exception of the harness.
