I am repairing this guys headgasket on his 95 GS-T, I had the head resurfaced however the block is .003 out. It gets lower in the center of the block. I told him we need to mill the deck now and he doesn't have the money to fix it the right way and tells me to just put it back together and hope for the best.

So I put it back together using brand new OEM stock composite gasket and arp headstuds. Assembled it and it still leaks.

Would you all agree that its gonna leak with the block out .003?

Thanks

Leaks what? Anti Freeze or compression? I'm not sure of the warpage limit, but with arp's and composite, it should have held, at least for a little while. Well, look at it this way, you told him so. You are exonorated of guilt of negligence.

Good Luck

Is it leaking from between the block and the head or is it just pushing coolant out of the overflow?

How long did it take for it to start leaking after you reassembled it? Where exactly is it leaking? Does it leak immediately upon startup, after the engine warms up, or only under high loads? Did you check the cylinder head surface for flatness after you had it machined? Any idea what the Ra or Rz is on the head? What did you torque the ARP's to? Did you use their moly lube? Did you inspect the headgasket for damage before you installed it? Is there any other relevant information that might help to diagnose the problem?

.003" isn't out of spec and shouldn't cause a leak. Is it possible that your measurement is not accurate?

It smoked immediately upon start up however that is to be expected. Once it reached operating temperature coolant was leaking out the muffler. The cylinder head checked out great for flatness the RA was 40, I torqued the arps in proper sequence in 3 steps 27, 54, and 80. It was a brand new head gasket from Mitsu. The only relevant info I can think of is the deck .0035 out maximum. I have never had a problem with one leaking prior, 2 with MLS and studs with great results now this one with stock composite and studs. Anyways, thanks for the replies and now Im gonna wait and see what the owner wants to do with the car.

Where on the block is the coolant leaking from? Ra should be in the 100-150 range for a composite gasket.
