Well i got my turbo installed and everything was running fine...and now i have problems again. Well let me give you some background info. My car started burning oil and eventually i had a cloud of smoke on the freeway. So i checked the turbo and sure enough it was time for a new one. So after putting it in and fixing a few small problems i was good to go. Now im losing oil again. I found oil under my valve cover and members on this site told me it could be the valve cover itself,(yet i have a new one), the valve cover gaskets, and/or the oil cap. I want to get past all of this so i can continue modding. Ive been working on maintenance ever since i bought the car and have done some modding. Now when i drive the car and boost i feel like the boost starts pulling then at 5k rpms or so starts to lurch or lag and then pull again. Weird feeling. Also when i drove to Santa Cruz and back (about 600 miles i lost near 3 quarts of oil) So what should i check first on oil problem and how can i tell whats actually the problem. (also im not seeing smoke out of the exhaust, my compression is amazing(180 and up), and i have no leaks on the ground). I am going to perform another boost leak test within the next couple days but am in college and have limited time.

before i rtv'd my oil return line where it bolts to the pan, i was leaking close to as much. It didnt leave a spot on the ground either, it just ran down the pan and sat there, and ran off while i drove. Might be something to check...

^^^ Ditto, I just went thru this very same episode on mine. Also the retaining bolts for the flange at the pan require an aluminum crush washer each to seal. Go over the entire bottom side of your car: oil pan, tranny, transfer case, underbody with some Simple Green (or other Engine Degreaser) and low pressure water to remove all the old oil. Leaks will then be much easier to spot.

May also want to check the turbo inlet for oil, make sure your PVC is functional and hopefully you've not capped off the breather on your valve cover as it (and the PCV) are needed to relieve crankcase pressure and help remove combustion gasses from the system :dsm:

Change the valve cover gasket and tube seals and install a new OEM PCV to start.

Any good places to get this stuff?

Also as for the oil leak thing, i looked under the car and couldnt find any oil leaks, no wet spots, nothing. The only place i found quite a bit of oil was under the valve cover.

My baby has leaked a few drops/day ever sence I put the EvoIII jdm shortblock in. I was leaking badly from the oil return untill I fixed that a month ago but the car still leaks. I know exactly where the leak is now only because I got some of the UV dye and did the leak test. I leak from the oilpan gasket right where the front timming cover and engine block meet up. I have wanted to fix this for a year now but I just do not have the time to so the car goes drip drip drip. You should see my the parking space at work, it looks like a tar pit puked on the concrete.

Valve cover gaskets can be bought at any parts store. Not sure what he meant by tube seals though. Also are you feeding oil from the head or from the oil filter?

I dont know whats meant by the tube seals either. Anyone know?

What do you mean by feeding oil from head or oil filter?

Also i had a leak at the oil return line but i fixed it. I have no other leaks that i can find.

sorry I wasn't more specific. Do you feed oil to your turbo from the cylinder head or do you feed it from the oil filter housing?

He means the (4) circular spark plug gaskets that come with the valve cover set.

Turbo oil feed can be either from the stock head location or (as recommended by non-BB aftermarket turbo manufacturers) feeding off the oil filter housing :dsm:

Mine runs off the oil filter housing not the head.

I cant find any other leaks. Im going to get a valve cover gasket kit and a new oil cap. Hopefully this will solve my problems.

On a side note it wouldnt be the valve cover right? I dont see any cracks.

Also, tighten the bolts down to torque specifications. If the bolts aren't tight enough, they can leak also.
