ok i have a question regarding water injection. i have read against using fuel system components (i.e. pumps and injectors) in water injection because their internals often rust out over time when water is used due to its highly corrosive properties.. but i have also read that our fuel pumps, and many other denso fuel pumps have completely ss internals making them safe for water injection, and that some members have succesfully used them for years without experience any ill effects. so does anyone have any evidence one way or another? all i have read is hearsay one way or the other..

I've run a stock fuel pump a very long time ago on a water injection setup i pieced together. It lasted for a while with no problems that i saw but i did run alot of alky in the setup it was 65/35 mix. I wouldn't suggest going with the fuel pump for a couple of reasons the main one is the pump should be submerged to keep it cool and not overheat and the second they don't like to run dry at all. I would look at getting a shurflo pump 60 or 100 psi will do. You can get them for around 55 with viton seals that will be safe for a long time running alky. Another nice feature is they can run dry with no problems. This is the pump I have now been running for 3 years with not one issue.

why is it that even though it worked for a long time you won't recommend it? if i submerge it in the resovior then it should be fine right?

The way i looked at it was that since this is a item that could cause serious engine damage if it fails from being run dry or overheats. To me it wasn't worth taking that chance. For 55 dollars you get a pump that is proven itself over and over. Like i said i ran the whole fuel pump thing a very long time ago before i knew of all the different options out there. If your feel it's ok to use it than go ahead it will work but i would spend the 55 bucks on the shurflo.

if the pump fails at WOT the knock sensor should retard timing quite a bit.. and if you think about it a shurflo pump isn't 100% either because i have heard of those failing too.. i think i may run the dsm pump for now and then maybe upgrade it to a shurflo if i am unsatisfied with its performance.. now the trick is finding a used dsm pump for cheap.. cheapest i have found them for is $20. if i can get one for $10 or less i will hop on it, otherwise may just splurge and get the shurflo

Thats true but i was able to run a ton more timing along with a 6 psi increase on 93 if my pump happens to fail it's a safe bet that i'm probably going to blow somthing up. I'm in the process of building a flowmeter setup for pretty cheap and wiring it to a ebc so if the pump fails or there is a clog it will reduce the amount of boost i'm running. Good luck with your setup.

well i have an safc (no way of adjusting timing) so i don't know if i would blow anything up..

Well i've got a chip to adjust for my injectors and then after the alky kicked on i ended up pulling a whole bunch of fuel out around 27% to get my afr around 11.5, so my timing went up. If you use only water you probably won't have to worry about pulling fuel out but if you add alky or meth to the mix you will be pulling fuel and with a afc your timing will increase.
