spun a rod bearing...but the bearing surfaces on the rod are fine...rod looks like it is in good condition with the exception that there is some discoloration/heat marks on the rod cap itself...does the discoloration mean that mean the rod is gone or can it be reused after i check the bore for roundness...

also this is not a stock rod which is why i want to find a cheaper way out...

You can take it to a machine shop and they can take a look at it and recondition it if it's still ok. Some discoloration is ok. I've done one's that were almost all blue but were still good. Clean it real good then take it somewhere to get magnet checked for cracks and also so they can check it for bending or twisting. If it is twisted just a few thousanths it will mess with the oil clearence's and make it fail again. I would get it checked or just buy a used one if you can find a single rod for sale.

single rod from pauter cost 190+...i just purchased a telescoping gauge set and i have a digital caliper...so i will most likely checking the clearances myself...i doubt it cracked because like i said it was just a little bit of discoloration...

On the subject though I would get it machined then. If it was a stock rod I would just get a new one but those are a little more than stock LOL.

i would get them machined if it was out of round...but that is not my main question right now...my main question is about the discoloration...if anyone has any info about the discoloration please let me know...thanks...

Yeah. Ask your machinist. We can't see it from here, and few of us would be qualified to make the judgement call anyway. And don't backsass the Mods.
