Has anyone sued those shifter base spacers vendors sell on this site? Do they really imporve your shift/feel when shifting? :talon:

I use the kit sold by BR. (the symbroski shift kit I think) I noticed a big difference in the feel of the shifter. It gives it a more accurate and slotted feel.

Mine almost feels gated, precise location for each gear. Makes it easier for your hand to "remember" exactly where the gears are when you skip a shift or coast before selecting the gear. I had these before I got my short shifter, but I belive that you'd notice a huge difference if you got comfortable with the short shifter first, since you have to be fairly accurate when you have a shorter throw to start with.

my short shifter feels completely normal. Did anyone who didn't notice a big problem to start with try these and feel a difference? Whatever those rubber bushings are doing now, they don't bother me at all. I Love my short shifter, and never question what gear Im in, unless I've been coasting as some oddball speed for a while. From a stop I notice nothing. To me it seems as though those bushings are too small to make that big of a difference. They are relatively skinny and so the play that they allow shouldn't be significant.

BTW, I read your first post and thought you were going to sue, since you asked if anyone had sued yet. Then I realized you just misspelled used. I was confused, "your selling a company that makes custom metal washers for like 35 bucks. Hmmm, your special..."

Also, I have a 90, so the kit wouldn't include the sleeve that goes in the shifter assembly itself, it would only be the bushings for me, maybe thats the difference, I don't need the sleeve for my car, and thats what you guys are feeling makes the difference. I dunno.

I didn't have a problem with mine, I just had $35 to blow. But it improved the feel greatly.
However, TSTKL, I don't know how much the sleeves change the feel compared to just the bushings themselves. I installed the sleeve and bushings all at once.

Well, I havea B&M set to 50% and I really like the shifter bushings. They improved the feel of the shifter, and my shifts in general.

I also made my own base "bushings" using metal washers, at the same time I did a short shifter, the underhhod bearings and new shift cables. $160 spent and it feels like a completely different car when shifting. Now the gears just snap into posistion with precision and I have not one complaint.

your name really confused the crap out of me for a second there...

auto rst... talking about shifting... LOL

anyways, I have the underhood bearings and really I didn't notice a difference, the short shifter is impossible to not notice a difference with, and I've been thinking about these bushings for a while. I'll be racing on wednesday, and if I miss another gear again, I'll probably end up doing this.

The short shifter truly is great though.

What short throws are out for 1Gs???????????

Ive been wanting one, but without the trans stopper ive been worried about damage//

Has anyone had any problems removing the shifter base bolts? I snapped one and almost snapped another and haven't touched it since. I hate the way it shifts, but obviously don't want to end up with no bolts.

I did the tranny bearing/bushings and it helped a little bit.

I've been running the shifter base bushings and some sealed bearings underhood for over 2 years now and the change was dramatic and is extremely worth the money. Well that is unless you like missing gears when you shift...:beatentodeath:

I thought that too. Until I took off my center console and shifted the shifter. The base literally 'shifted' about a quarter of an inch forward and backward. I replaced the rubber bushings with the Symborski kit and have loved the results ever since. The B&M short shifter came three days later and is set on 50%. That made a HUGE improvement as well.

My $.02: If you've got an extra $35, go ahead and buy the Symborski kit. You'll love it. If you're broke, see if you can make your own with some steel washers. Either way, you're fixing just one more thing that Mitsubishi got wrong. :p

screw it, I don't have bump stops and I haven't overshifted. I even TRIED to overshift it when I first got it and couldn't. Its pretty hard to overshift it I think

fidanza makes a 1g version, but it "needs modification" for the 1990 version.

Got to love the 90. Everything (almost fits). haha...Ill admit mine is just a 40 dollar ebay piece but I truly love it. Actual 2 piece, not just the shaft.
