My God, I just got my car back from the shop yesterday after it being there getting a 6 bolt swap for 5 months, yes 5 months, the owner kept dicking me around and taking his sweet ass time but he finally got it finished up. So i drove it yesterday and went to a car gathering last night, as im backing out of the spot to leave i see on the ground a decent sized spot of oil, about 4-5 inches wide. I checked under the car this morning and it appears that the oil pressure sending unit is leaking from where the wire plugs into it, is this even possible? the rest of the oil filter housing is bone dry except for that sending unit "bulb". Then i saw some wires on the back of my motor were wet with fresh oil as well as my firewall. Where the hell could an oil leak be on the back of my block? Any helpful responses welcome, thanks.

Hard to say without seeing it but i would clean off all the oil and see if you can see where its coming from then. If i were you i'd take it right back to that guy cause i'm sure that you didn't pay them for a oil leak.

I don't blame you i'd be piss also. I would try to go in with a not so pissed off attitude. Sometimes things get done alittle bit faster and easier if you go in with a level head and be calm about it. Good luck

this is why the only people who really love these cars are the ones who work on and diagnose the vehicle themselves.

Now that's not entirely fair. Quite a few hardcore DSMer's I know don't do all the work and diagnosis themselves. Alot of them lack the tools, garage space, and or time. Just because you lack in these things doesn't mean you don't have just as much love as any other DSMer.

Thank you. I am an 18 year old kid, working full time and when my motor first died on me i was in school too. I didnt have the time nor the tools to take on such a task as assembling a new motor and dropping it in. Trust me I love my car just as much as the next guy, even through all the problems i have had nothing can compare to the joy i get out of working on and driving my dsm. I have diagnosed all of the problems this car has had and fixed all but the motor swap. If you want to look down upon me for that, go ahead, because I take pride in what i have tried and accomplished on this car, and the hard work and money i have invested in it.

I agree 100%.

I agree too. The engine that's in it now was put in by a mechanic friend of my brother. But that's mostly because I was in Iraq. After it taking for EVER (much longer than 6 months, mind you) I decided that I WILL do everything from now on. I had the same issue when I got it back. Massive oil leak. Mine was at the pan-block connection. Soaked the flex tube in oil which would then cook off after driving a while. Scared the sh1t out of me. Now, after having been crushed under my car for about 45sec-1min when it was knocked off the jackstands, I STILL refuse to not do all the work. I just don't trust others with my baby anymore. If that block ever has to come out, I guess I'll have to buy a hoist. and spend a LOT of sundays in the garage. 'cause I work full time and go to school full-time too. The trick is to not have a life.

Anyway, back to the post. Yeah, take a look at the pan. If you read on these forums, it seems that most mechanics are incapable of getting a good seal. Hell, I had to do it twice. Even if it doesn't LOOK like it's coming out of that area, you'd be surprised how an oil leak there can spread onto EVERYTHING. Since you said it's kinda everywhere, that's what I'd check. Good luck.

Yea I agree with a DSM you really have to learn how to do things yourself. With the abuse we put these poor cars thew and the age they are things break. As far as oil leaking from the back of the block I would look at the head gasket not sealing for some reason there. I cant think of anything else for oil leaking in the back of the block???

Well I gave the shop a call and he said that when they were putting oil in it they accidentally spilled a bunch  So im just going to keep an eye on the oil level and keep driving it and get some brake cleaner and clean it up and see if anymore shows up. I checked to see if his story could be legit and i did see a bit of oil by the oil cap on the intake manifold and some going down the back of the timing belt cover. So ill clean her up and check it out each time i drive it.

I'd still be pissed. You pay all that cash and wait 5 months for a swap. And you get the motor back and it's dirty and oil spilled. If thats all it is, thats good though, because i'd take dirty over messed up. But still, when i work on a car and spill, i'll clean the shit up.

Anyway, good luck with it man. And what happened with the oil sender unit leak?

still a few dribbles from the sender, chances are ill need a new one but oh well. I will order one and replace it once i get home from vacation.

5 months is nothing. My car was down for 8 months before it got started up again. I bought a rebuilt 6 bolt with 0 miles on it. The first time it was started it blew the HG and was POURING oil from the block. Turned out that the cylinders were bored .040" over and the pistons in it were only .020" over. SO I had to buy new pistons and get them installed, the car purrs now but it is leaking oil from the front case and the oil pan. The guy that put it together used the red silicone junk that is NOT meant for oil applications so the oil just slides on through. There have been times where I wanted to destroy my car, people even told me I should just sell it and buy a new one, but I will never give up. I just try to keep cool and have to remind myself that it is just a DSM and that one day it WILL be fixed. You have to keep that attitude that you WILL fix it and not let it bring you down. Hopefully you get yours all cleared up, mine should be as soon as I find time to get the case off and clean the silicone off to put some Ultra Gray on it.

If your going to have someone work on your car other then yourselves, I would really make sure they are experienced on working with DSMs.
Good advice, but make sure to take it to a reputable shop that knows DSMs. I took mine to a DSM specialist shop to do the 6 bolt swap and they were shoddy and shady as can be. Then I took it to a guy that my bud knows that has done the swap a good number of times and even he didnt end up fixing it completely. Just be careful who you take it to.

lean it out then...

(by the way, this was in response to his thread title, don't want any idiots taking me serious and thinking that Im telling him that leaning the car out will solve his leaking oil problem)

^^^hehe! It seems more like you should say"I just want to blow this shop up". Don't blame the horse if the saddle's on backwards. Find out who put the saddle on.

Leak all over the place!!!! Sorry man, i know the feeling ..... check the valve cover it maybe broken....

These cars are leak monsters! I do not think its possible for a dsm not to leak some oil.
They have way too many gaskets and leak areas.

Some of them are ..my new 2.4 build that I did most of the work on..I used topline oil pan gasket. It leaked like a pig. I put in ultra gray rtv. It was hard to get pan on straight so think rubbed too much off and got another leak. Then redid pan with mits rtv and bought three studs that were same as oil pan bolts and used them as guides. No leak at pan now finally.
The pan leak was nasty it would drop on drivers axle and then get slung everywhere.Messy messy!

I then had new oil pan bolt leaking bad. I finally put teflon tape on that one.
I still have oil return leaking not sure why used new gasket, put thin rtv on the gasket, put thread sealer on the bolts and it still leaks but not too bad.
Have leak on plug on oil filter and one plug on oil filter housing that can't fix without taking off timing cover or at least pulling it out to get the filter housing off. That leak is minor so leave it for now.
Also valve cover is stupid. You torque them to spec and they leak, overtighten and they crack and leak and the valve cover bolts strip way too easy. Already strip one need to helicoil or something someday so far not leaking only one stripped.
Oh if you forget to put in balance shaft check bolt on back of block it will leak bad out of that.
Good luck .I just buy lots of extra oil and make sure to keep checking it often.

Some days these cars just piss me off!!

mine doesn't leak any oil whatsoever

it just burns oil like crazy...

but I think thats because I put in some synthetic after the engine running non-synthetic for 91k miles... whatever, I don't drive it often enough for it to be an issue, I normally check the oil level 8-10 times in between each drive. Just because it sits for so long...
