I am having a difficult time starting my car after the rebuild 6bolt 2.3, in 97 gsx, dsmlink, maf-t. The car wont start unless I quickly put the clutch in like im shifting fast and then turn the key when my foot hits the floor. If I just put my foot to the floor and then turn the key all I hear is the relay and solenoid clicking.

Also when setting base timing do the reading on the crank go 15, 10, 5, TDC? I set the base timing to between 10 and TDC so I believe that is 5, but I set the timing before I stepped on the gas a little to bring the idle down, I believe the idle was at around 1400 rpms when i set the base timing, does it matter what rpm the engine is at when you set base timing?

Also when I step on the gas a little to bring the rpms down they go down but float between 1000 and 1400. I have dsmlink set to stock idle of 750 with pte 880's should I raise the stock idle?

As for the starting issue there is an adjustment on the clutch starter switch under the dash. Take a look at it and see if the switch is being triggered late, if so adjust it to depress earlier. Also, is there anything bunched up under the clutch pedal, for example, maybe a floor mat? ( I had that problem once until i riveted my mat in front of my seat. If you are still having problems I would go the junkyard and get another clutch switch.

My friend has the same problem with the clutch......I guess you are not the only one :) ...
Then, another problem he has is: after 2 min running, car turns off itself, and then he has hard time to turn it on....maybe it comes from the same problem...

Alright so I changed out the ground from the battery to the firewall and the ground from the battery to the alternator with 4gauge wire. I also replaced the positive and negative terminals with gold ones from autozone. The car starts much easier now.

I'm still having the above issue though, also when i step on the gas pedal it takes a second for the rpms to go up almost as if it is hesitating for a second, its not the cable because it does the same thing when i do it from the throttle body itself. I found an extremely small gas leak from the filter the rail that I am going to fix, I wonder if it is hesitating because of the leak?? Also at 1,000 rpm's my vac is only at 10 at 1400 its about 15. What should the vac be at on stock cams? I read 18-20?

I attempted to do a boost leak test but a weld between the charge pipe and the intercooler has a hole in the weld, I am going to have it re-weled tomm and do the boost leak test again. O the joys of these cars.

That hesitation is from the combination of your boost leaks and your base timing being incorrect. Fix the leaks (boost and fuel) then rebase the timing. Don't forget to ground the little connector on the firewall so that the ecu allows it to be changed.
