My e brake barely engages anymore, i have to pull it almost all the way up just to get the car in a parked state. and when i put the e brake up and let off the foot brake, i hear a odd short squeaking noise. Also the e brake light will occasionaly come on and off while driving. How can i fix these problems?

Sounds to me that with the light coming on and the symptoms you describe its time for new breaks. Sometimes you can get away with adjusting the e-brake cable but I think in your case you probably need brakes, hell mines doing the same thing as we speak so Im looking some new rotors and pads myself.

correct me if im wrong, but doesnt the E brake involve the rear wheels only? if so, i just got those brakes replaced. Im getting new rotors and pads for the front next week...is the e brake cable located inside the console?

Your ebrake uses shoes inside of the rotor, if you replaced your brake pad you did not change the ebrake shoes.

i changed the rotors as well. or is the shoe entirely something different?

well when you go to change the rear rotors you will see what we are talking about :thumb: its drum brakes inside the rear rotors.... just order ebrake drums and springs while you are getting rear rotors you will thank me when you look at the condition of those old pads

Shoes are something totally different. They are only for the ebrake. they have nothing to do with anything else. If you were doing some ebrake turns or drifts or stops that's normally the only way those shoes wear.

There is a way to tighten the brake at the rotor, but I don't know how to describe it exactly. If you pull the rotor off, you will see the shoes.. they're long and flat and follow the curve of the rotor. if you see abour 1/4" of material on them you don't need to replace them, you could probably just tighten them. Hope it helped.

Sounds like whoever replaced your rear discs didn't do a brake adjustment while they were there. If you've not adjusted shoes before, it might be a good idea to spend the money on having a mechanic do it. There's not much to it, but it does take a certain touch so that you don't wind up dragging and overheating. There's a hole in the back of the brakes you reach through with a brake spoon to turn the star wheel on the adjuster.

It would help if you say that you just had the rear brakes done when starting the thread.:thumb:
