Best Year for 1G?

early 92 where it has a 4 bolt rear, 6 bolt motor, Otherwise, the 91 awd with a 4 bolt rear swap because the 90's are full of all sorts of odd-er $hit.

Thanks for the input, looks like the late 92 DSM was the best of out of the 1G's. The only reason I ask is that I don't plan on going bonkers on my 99 with mods. I'd rather have my daily driver and a project car.

'92 trannys were slightly stronger in 3-4 gear assembly. You would not see that deficiency until you get close to 400-500 hp range and even then, you are not always going to see it. But 93-94 trannys shifted much better. You can rebuild '91-'92 tranny to shift good, but it will not be as good as '93+ tranny...

So if you already have a good tranny, get a '92. If you have a good motor, get 93-94.

Another thing to keep in mind, is that all '94 DSMs came with CA emitions. Not a big deal, but that is the only difference between '93 and '94.

And ‘93+ AWD cars had bigger brakes.

another 92.5 vote. one of the local guys had a 6 bolt 4 bolt combo til he parked it in a pond :( vpc, fmic, and his new blitz 18's all got trashed.

Some early 92s also had 2piston caliper brakes another bonus and also came with Eprom ECUs, Early 91s did as well.

90's are odd because of there ECU and throttle body but they did come with air/oil oil coolers where as 91+ came with coolant/oil coolers the sandwich style that sit on the oil filter housing. But if you upgrade it to a air/oil like I did I guess it doesn't matter. 91s and Early 92s are the best in my opinion. You could always upgrade your tranny with TRE parts.

i wouldnt worry so much about finding the "right" car to start with because when it all comes down to it youll be replacing almost every part either because it is a POS and breaks or there is a better version....except for the 4 bolt rear, thats a good start. save money for the parts you ll end up needing.

So you guys would not recomend a 90? Could someone tell me the reasons why this is? thanks in advanced

my car was mfg in july on 92. So would that make it a 93 or a 92.5??? Its listend as a 93...so what parts would i have?

Just about everything (other than oil cooler) is worse on '90 cars. And to make matters worse, many parts are not interchangeable (not easily, anyway) between later years. Whenever possible, stay away from '90 cars, unless you are getting a killer deal.

ouch...hehe...hey 90s arent that bad...just slip in the 4bolt rear end and ur all good...

and as far as non interchangable parts...

also TRE doesn't do 90 trannies...daym!...
