I just installed a brand new Evo III 16g Turbo. About 30 seconds after I start the car, white smoke will start coming up near the middle/back of the turbo. I have all the exhaust manifold studs in there so no oil is leaking from that bottom middle stud I don't think. Also, when I take off the oil cap, about the same amount of white smoke comes out of the valve cover. Compression is good, and there is no smoke out of the exhaust. I've looked all around the area with a flash light and didn't come up with much. There seems to be a little bit of oil underneath one of the coolant lines down there also.

It sounds like you blow your HG, but you said your compression is fine...I would let your car work for some time, maybe you got some oil left after instalation it may go away...Only thing that worries me is that you are getting smoke under your valve cover...

I don't think its my headgasket because I didn't have this smoke problem at all before the turbo install, and there is no smoke coming out of my exhaust.

umm, how long did it smoke for? the first bit, after a turbo install it will smoke, its burning the oils form your hands, drips ect off. But I would doubt you would see it in the oil.

Proof of the burning after a turbo install found here: http://www.vfaq.com/mods/2G-16G-2.html "3rd line" in "section 35". But it should stop after a few minutes. Mine did?? But I never looked in the oil fill spout nor have I heard of this symptom, nor have I any way to explain it there? Sorry.

Have you checked your oil to see if its a milky color? If so then somehow water is getting into your oil.

Obviously the smoke is blowing by SOMETHING so there has to be a leak somewhere.

i have installed turbos into my car 5 times, and every time it smokes for about 10-15 minutes after startup. Yes, i always primed the turbo and gave false starts to charge it with oil. For me, the smoke is anti-sieze compound that i used on the bolts burning off. It is totally normal...

However, i DID see smoke out the exhaust. i did not check the valvetrain for smoking...
